In the Banjo-Kazooie games, there are magic users such as Mumbo Jumbo and Humba Wumba who can alter various aspects, including the forms of Banjo and Kazooie. These transformations allow the player to adopt the form of creatures like termites or bees to overcome obstacles that would otherwise be inaccessible in the normal form. Each world that features magic users holds at least one Jiggy that can only be obtained by utilizing the transformation service. Before these transformations can be used, however, the player must meet specific requirements. In the game Banjo-Kazooie, the player must collect Mumbo Tokens and offer a set amount to Mumbo Jumbo in exchange for his magic services, that can then be used unlimited times. The number of Tokens required can be viewed on a wooden sign near Mumbo’s seat, and this number increases as the player progresses to different worlds. In the sequel game Banjo-Tooie, the player must present a Glowbo to a magic user to use the service, while each world contains two that can be offered in any order. In Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, the transformation service is actually similarly to the game Banjo-Kazooie, with a total of only four Mumbo Tokens available in the game. They’re not scattered throughout the world as they used to be, and can only be obtained by defeating either Klungo or Gruntilda. Finally, the world Breegull Beach is the only world in the game without a Mumbo Token as Kazooie is received, after beating Mecha-Gruntilda in Quarry Heights.
» Yooka-Laylee Series
Similar to Banjo-Kazooie, players can change their form in Yooka-Laylee in order to gain special abilities and overcome obstacles. One of the key characters that facilitates this transformation is Dr. Puzz, who is a human-octopus hybrid and serves as the game’s magic user. With her unique invention, the D.N.Ray, players can transform into various creatures and take advantage of their new skills. To use her service, the world’s Mollycool has to be found and offered to Dr. Puzz, which the D.N.Ray machine will activate, allowing to interact with it by standing on the platform in front of it. Each transformation in Yooka-Laylee grants players abilities that are vital for solving puzzles and accessing new areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. For example, Yooka and Laylee can shoot projectiles to activate switches and break obstacles or enter small holes, among other things. In addition, some bosses in Yooka-Laylee can only be fought while being transformed, for example, Planette in Galleon Galaxy can only be challenged after Moonie has been destroyed in the Spaceship Form. Unlike in the game Banjo-Tooie, where players could collect Glowbos in any order, they must find the Mollycool in the current world to use Dr. Puzz’s transformations. As soon as the Mollycool has been found and offered to her, players are able to use the D.N.Ray machine unlimited times, opening up a whole new world of possibilities and gameplay mechanics.
