Nipper is a giant emerald-colored hermit crab that made his debut in the popular Banjo-Kazooie video game. He can be found resting in the second world, known as Treasure Trove Cove, where he guards a very small section of the beach. To find Nipper, the player must pass through the left door beside the world’s dock with the entrance platform on it. As soon as the player comes close enough to Nipper, a short conversation starts in which Nipper claims ownership of a small piece of land and offers to help Banjo and Kazooie find treasures on his beach, emphasizing that they will not find anything without his assistance. Due to Kazooie’s disrespectful attitude towards him the conversation rapidly escalates into a battle. After the player successfully defeats Nipper, he retreats back into his giant pink shell and disappears, which allows the player to enter it in order to uncover Musical Notes on the way to the centered room. In the last room, the player is able to locate Blue Eggs on the ground and a Jiggy floating in the air, along with two green Snippets. By returning to Gruntilda’s Lair and re-entering Treasure Trove Cove, the player can confront Nipper another time. In addition it’s worth noting that Nipper, the massive hermit crab, shares the same voice as Klungo, who is the loyal henchman of the game’s antagonist, Gruntilda Winkybunion.

» Battle Procedure

During the battle with Nipper, he doesn’t use any unique abilities that would make him a genuine threat. The only attack that he’ll use is to swing his massive claws and attempt to snap at Banjo and Kazooie. As a result of his bulky pink shell on his back, he does not move at all, and his arms have a restricted range. This means that the player can evade getting snapped by standing far enough away from Nipper. After using his snap attack two times, he will become exhausted and take a brief respite, during which he does not attack at all. This makes him vulnerable to attacks providing the player with the perfect opportunity to inflict damage on Nipper by using Kazooie’s Rat-a-tat Rap on his eyes. Each time he successfully takes damage, he becomes more enraged and snaps faster than before with his big claws. Furthermore, Nipper takes shorter breaks after attempting to snap at Banjo and Kazooie, making it more challenging to hurt him. As soon as the player hits his eyes three times, Nipper surrenders and retreats back inside his shell. This grants the player access to his pink shell, where he can find Musical Notes, Blue Eggs, and a Jiggy.
