Klungo, the emerald-green colored troll, was once a trusted ally of the nefarious witch Gruntilda in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. However, after enduring countless blows from his cruel mistress for failing to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from interfering with her evil schemes, he was eventually replaced by Piddles. Although Klungo appears to be less than brilliant at first glance, he is in fact a highly intelligent being, responsible for creating numerous contraptions, such as the incredible Beauty Steal Machine and potent potions to aid his mistress in her plans. Also, Klungo’s peculiar speech pattern is notable, as he tends to lengthen the “s” sound in every word he utters, which is similar to the serpent Ssslumber, who is above the Code Chamber in Mayahem Temple. Despite his grammatical idiosyncrasies, Klungo first made his debut in Banjo-Kazooie, where he played a minor role as an assistant to Gruntilda Winkybunion in creating a machine, which allowed her to siphon Tooty’s beauty. Klungo’s involvement in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie, was more substantial, as he served as a boss character attempting to impede Banjo and Kazooie’s progress through the game. Frustrated by his repeated failures against the protagonists, Klungo ultimately decided to shun Gruntilda and her malevolent ways and pursue a career in game development. True to his word, Klungo has successfully established himself as a game developer in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, having released his first title, Hero Klungo Sssavesss Teh World. However, Klungo’s lack of thorough testing on his game has resulted in frustrating crashes, forcing players to restart entire levels in the game. Klungo’s past servitude to Gruntilda has left him with a deep-seated distaste for his previous occupation, prompting him to create a game in which he is the hero rather than the villain as he used to, while progressing through different levels to finally defeat Gruntilda.

» Battle Procedure

Klungo proved his worth in Banjo-Tooie by brewing and using his self-made potions to hinder the progress of the game’s protagonists, Banjo and Kazooie. In each battle, Klungo used a different potion, and never repeated the same one twice. His first potion was the blue one, which created numerous clones of Klungo that roamed around, making it difficult for players to distinguish the real one. However, since he was not focused enough when creating this potion, the clones didn’t look exactly like him. His second potion was green and made him completely invisible, giving him the upper hand in battle. However, the potion had a flaw and therefore showed Klungo’s location after a few seconds, giving players the opportunity to track him down. Finally, his last potion was red and made him to grow in size, allowing him to easily stomp Banjo and Kazooie. In addition his self-protective barrier gave him a small advantage in battles. After each hit from players, Klungo activated his shield to become invulnerable, while throwing hurtful potions back. In Klungo’s final battle, he became more accurate in his throws, making it impossible for the player to outrun the potions. In this case, the player has to switch directions between the potions to avoid getting hit by them. In Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, he appears as a boss three times in Cliff Farm, Bad Magic Bayou, and Freezing Furnace. Unlike in Banjo-Tooie, he doesn’t use any of his self-brewed potions. Instead, he simply walks around and throws potions at the player while being protected by a shield. After a short time, his barrier stops working, allowing the player to deal damage.
