Planette is a boss featured in the widely popular video game, Yooka-Laylee. Initially encountered in the final Grand Tome of Hivory Towers, Galleon Galaxy, Planette’s appearance is both special and somber, reminiscent of a huge grey planet with luminescent pink eyes, a diminutive nose, a small mouth, and several glowing craters on her surface. With three different colored sides, each corresponding to the three types of projectiles that the protagonists can use while in the game’s Space Ship transformation, Planette also boasts a colossal volcano on her head, enabling her to launch burning asteroids and pose a serious threat to opponents. Although initially passive, she becomes hostile after the players accidentally murder her beloved husband, Moonie. Planette’s deep care for Moonie is evident, given the time and effort she put into attracting him. Triggering the battle requires players to face the Black Hole-in-One building and turn to the right in order to spot a group of asteroids. Upon closer inspection, players will discover Moonie hidden within the asteroids, who has to be destroyed using Yooka and Laylee’s Spaceship Form to make Planette turn hostile. Throughout the boss battle, Planette insults the players, adding to the excitement of the battle. Defeating Planette grants players the Planetary Annihilation achievement, one of the thirty-five achievements in the game, along with a golden Pagie after Planette’s detonation. With her unique appearance and fighting style, she is a beloved boss in the Yooka-Laylee series.
» Battle Procedure
To defeat Planette, players must navigate a challenging battle. At the start of the encounter, she rotates to one of her three surfaces. Quick adaptation and use of appropriate weapons for each surface is necessary while avoiding all incoming projectiles. If Planette rotates to the fire surface and launches fire balls, players have to use Frostberries to inflict damage. When she turns to the ice surface and launches frozen balls, players will have to use the Space Ship’s flamethrower to inflict damage. Finally, when Planette rotates to the rock surface, where she launches explosive asteroids, players must fire cannonballs for damage. During the fight, most of Planette’s body is submerged, and only the volcano on her northern hemisphere is visible. Also, players can not do anything but dodge the lava asteroids that emerge. Once all crates on all three sides have been destroyed, Planette will prepare for the final phase. She will emerge completely out of the water spewing regular asteroids at Yooka and Laylee. She will fire five asteroids at a time, and players will need to shoot cannon balls at her face during the breaks between attacks for damage. Only one single cannon can harm her in each break, so patience and careful planning is necessary to wait for the next break to deal damage. Success in this challenging battle requires skill, strategy and perseverance. Also, players must stay focused and keep their cool under pressure to dodge her projectiles and strike back when they’ve the opportunity. With precise execution and careful planning, players can claim victory in this challenging battle and earn a Pagie as a reward.
