Doubloons are the primary currency used in Jolly Roger’s Lagoon, the aquatic world featured in Banjo-Tooie and its Xbox Live Arcade version. These unique coins are used to purchase various collectibles and services throughout the level. Doubloons can be found scattered throughout the Lagoon, with thirty Doubloons available to be collected. Jolly Roger’s Tavern, Pawno’s Emporium and Captain Blubber’s Waveracer Hire are the main locations where Doubloons can be spent. In order to purchase everything in the world, at least twenty-six Doubloons must be spent, making it crucial to collect as many as possible. Pawno’s Jiggy can be purchased for twenty Doubloons while his Cheato Page can be obtained for five Doubloons. Furthermore, a box of Turbo Trainers can be purchased from Captain Blubber for one Doubloon, which is required to collect the Jinjo inside the alcove that is located on the opposite of the town. Captain Blackeye, a drunken pirate residing in Jolly Roger’s Lagoon, will provide Banjo and Kazooie with two Doubloons in exchange for a glass of water. While these Doubloons cannot be used to buy drinks at the tavern, they are extra Doubloon’s that can be used to purchase other collectibles. In Jolly Roger’s Tavern, there is a small room with one of Jamjars’ silos where they can learn the move Sub-Aqua Egg Aiming. By spending two Doubloons to rent this room, Banjo and Kazooie can acquire this ability. Although the majority of Doubloons are easy to obtain, some are hidden and require the use of the Bill Drill technique to uncover them. Collecting all Doubloons in the world Jolly Roger’s Lagoon unlocks a Gamerpic in the Xbox Live Arcade version, providing an additional incentive for completionists.
