George

George Ice Cube is a minor character in the Banjo-Kazooie series, first appearing in Banjo-Tooie before making a cameo in the game Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts as an ice-sculpture. Despite his minor role he has become an iconic character in the franchise due to his lovable personality and propensity for near-death accidents. As a big and friendly Chinker, George is often seen with his beloved wife, Mildred Ice Cube. The couple resides on the Icy Side of Hailfire Peaks, living in close proximity to Boggy’s new Igloo. Unfortunately, George’s peaceful existence is disrupted when he is unexpectedly caught in a windstorm and carried away to Cloud Cuckooland. Realizing that he has landed directly above Hailfire Peaks, he asks Banjo and Kazooie to help him reunite with his wife by giving him a gentle push down towards the Icy Side. However, his judgment is slightly off and he plummets to his death in a pool of scalding hot water on the Fire Side. Despite his tragic end, his demise inadvertently makes the water cooler, allowing the protagonists to empty it into the pool of Piggles and Trotty in Jolly Roger’s Lagoon, who reward them with a Jiggy. As George melts away, he implores Banjo and Kazooie to tell his wife that he loves her, but is unable to finish his sentence. His wife, Mildred Ice Cube, suffers a similar fate earlier in the game at the hands of Banjo and Kazooie. Despite this, crude and blocky ice sculptures of George and Mildred appear in Banjoland as vital elements in a Jiggy-Challenge titled Ice To See You. Although it is uncertain whether the statues are actually George and Mildred, revived and reformed by L.O.G., or merely replicas like the majority of the world’s museum they undoubtedly bear little resemblance to their Banjo-Tooie counterparts and are dressed in frozen clothing. In the Jiggy-Challenge, Bottles tells that George has slipped down to Gobi’s Valley, where he will soon melt away from loneliness. The task involves returning the sculpture of George to the sculpture of Mildred, which is found on top of the Freezeezy Peak area. In addition, an even smaller model of George can be found perched on a ledge on the Cloud Cuckooland exhibit, referencing his small role in Banjo-Tooie. Despite his untimely end, George’s legacy lives on in the franchise, and remains a fan favorite to this day.
