Pagie

Pagies are the primary collectibles in the Yooka-Laylee franchise that serve as the game’s core currency. These glowing golden pieces of parchment are essential for unlocking new worlds and expanding upon them. Once held within the pages of the One Book, they scattered after Capital B captured it. These prized possessions are adorned with a brown colored butterfly trim and are often torn in various places, giving them a unique appearance. The developers have given a fun twist to the term page by substituting the last letter with two new ones in order to form the name Pagie. The game Yooka-Laylee features a whopping 145 Pagies, with twenty-five hidden in each world and twetny in the hub world Hivory Towers. Collecting hundred Pagies is a requirement for Yooka and Laylee to engage in battle with their antagonist Capital B, adding a sense of urgency to the game’s collect-a-thon gameplay. In addition to the standard Pagies, there are also Pagie Pieces and Pagies in Cagies. Pagie Pieces are the remnants of a torn common Pagie that have been scattered by Capital B’s enforcers in Tribalstack Tropics and Galleon Galaxy. Players must collect all four pieces of a torn Pagie, including the original, to assemble them into one complete Pagie. Meanwhile, Pagies in Cagies are Pagies that have been locked away in cages by Capital B’s minions. These steel cages can be unlocked by completing nearby tasks or objectives. Once unlocked, the top of the cage will open up, allowing the protagonists to grab it. Collecting Pagies is an important part of the game, with players needing to explore every nook and cranny of each world to find them, providing a sense of accomplishment as players collect them to progress.

» Pagies in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

The game Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair features the return of the collectibles known as Pagies, which are scattered throughout the game’s world, Royal Stingdom. However, in contrast to their previous role in the first game, Pagies serve a different function altogether. While Pagies were previously instrumental in progressing and expanding Grand Tomes, now they are primarily used to modify the environment and obstacles in Royal Stingdom, making them a key part of the game’s exploration. There are comparatively fewer Pagies than in its predecessor, but each one is thoughtfully placed in a specific section of Royal Stingdom. Upon finding a Pagie in the game’s hub world, players must complete the challenge set by the current rare Pagie. These challenges range from reaching a goal within a given time frame to defeating all enemies in a specified area before the timer runs out. Should players fail to complete a challenge, they have the option to try again or cancel and attempt it later in the game. Once a challenge is successfully completed, it will use its power to modify nearby obstacles within Royal Stingdom, creating new pathways and unlocking access to previously inaccessible areas. For example, a Pagie might raise tree stumps allowing Yooka and Laylee to reach a previously unreachable platform containing a Grand Tome or a Tonic. Although most Pagies are optional and not required to access other sections of Royal Stingdom, they serve as a vital incentive for players in order to explore every nook and cranny of the world. Overall, the return of Pagies in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair has added a new layer of complexity to the game’s exploration. With each Pagie offering a special challenge and the opportunity to modify the environment or obstacles in the hub world, players are incentivized to take on each task, ensuring that they fully explore all that Royal Stingdom has to offer.
