Sonar Shot

The Sonar Shot is a technique introduced in the inaugural installment of the Yooka-Laylee series and is obtained from the character Trowzer in the Tribalstack Tropics world, requiring the player to exchange 30 Quills. As soon as learnt, Laylee gains the ability to emit a powerful ring of sound waves. Activating the Sonar Shot is achieved by pressing the Y button on an Xbox Controller and holding the Y button enables Laylee to continuously emit sonar waves. It’s important to note that each sonar wave consumes a portion of Yooka and Laylee’s Power Meter, limiting the frequency of use. In this case, the protagonists must wait for the power bar to regenerate after exhausting its capacity. Expanding the Power Meter can be accomplished by using the Tonic called Athlete obtained from the character Vendi, effectively doubling its size. The Sonar Shot technique serves multiple purposes within the game. Notably it enables players to activate dormant Totems found in Tribalstack Tropics and Glitterglaze Glacier. When activated, they generate additional objects like floating moving platforms, facilitating access to previously unreachable sections or opening gates. Additionally, the Sonar Shot proves useful in combat scenarios, as it temporarily confuses and incapacitates enemies upon contact with the Sonar Waves. This skill significantly simplifies the process of neutralizing adversaries. Moreover, the Sonar Shot aids in the location of a hidden collectible called Heidi, a blue Ghost Writer. Heidi remains invisible, only emitting audible giggles when Yooka and Laylee approach. To reveal Heidi’s presence, players have to employ the Sonar Shot with Laylee, uncovering Heidi and subsequently collecting her. This skill represents the sole indispensable for defeating Googly Eyes once they attach themselves to inanimate objects.
