Shipwreck Creek

650px ShipwreckCreekBanner

Shipwreck Creek serves as the inaugural section in the game Yooka-Laylee and bears a striking resemblance to Spiral Mountain from Banjo-Kazooie. The dynamic duo of Yooka and Laylee call Shipwreck Creek their home and have ingeniously fashioned their abode from the remnants of a shipwreck. It serves as the perfect introductory world, allowing players to get their bearings and familiarize themselves with the basic mechanics. Shipwreck Creek isn’t only the starting point of the game but also serves as the gateway to game’s hub world Hivory Towers, which is the base of operations for the primary antagonist, Capital B. Upon commencing their journey, the player is introduced to Trowzer, a snake with a keen business acumen, who acquaints the player with the fundamental abilities required to progress through the game. These include attacking and using double jumps, as well as an introduction to the game’s collectibles like Quills. Quills are essential for unlocking new abilities and progressing through the game’s worlds, and they’ll quickly come to appreciate their importance. Once the player enters the hub world Hivory Towers they can not return to Shipwreck Creek until they collect a Pagie in Tribalstack Tropics. However, once players have completed this task, they can return to Shipwreck Creek and gather any previously missed collectibles, including ten Quills, two Pagies and one Butterfly Extender. The Butterfly Extender is obtainable with Laylee’s Flappy Flight, which can be acquired from Trowzer later in the game at no additional cost. Beyond the confines of the shipwreck players can also encounter Blasto, who appears to have an obstruction in his throat. With a swift Buddy Slam from Yooka and Laylee on his back, the Pagie lodged in Blasto’s throat can be dislodged, allowing them to collect it.

» Shipwreck Creek in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

Located at the bottom of Royal Stingdom, in the game Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, lies the well-known Shipwreck Creek. This nostalgic location still maintains its iconic design from the previous game, but with an updated look. In order to gain access to this coveted section, players must traverse towards the beach and continue walking south until they reach a cave, which they have to enter. Upon successfully exiting the cave, they’ll be greeted by the familiar surroundings of Shipwreck Creek. This area boasts a plethora of collectibles, including Tonics, as well as many non-playable characters from the previous game, such as the One Book. The diligent player will undoubtedly encounter the character Blasto, who’s stationed in front of Shipwreck Creek. Blasto serves as an important component to unlock a shortcut in Royal Stingdom by allowing the player to cross a bridge. To accomplish this task, they must engage in a dialogue with Blasto, directing him to turn around towards the bridge. Once Blasto is positioned correctly, the player must then use the Buddy Slam on Blasto’s back. This results in Blasto firing a bullet at the bridge, ultimately unlocking a shortcut leading to Shipwreck Creek. It’s important to note that although Shipwreck Creek serves as a nostalgic reminder of the previous game, Yooka-Laylee, it holds its own unique surprises in the form of valuable collectibles, but also new graphics and design elements.

PAGIES

Pagie #01: A wrecked nest can be found in Shipwreck Creek, which is located on the top of a hill, holding a Pagie that flies in a circle. Yooka and Laylee can access this area and pick up the Pagie by using the Reptile Roll on the broken red and green ramp that leads to the hills.

Pagie #02: On the left side of Shipwreck Creek, an uphill path can be found behind the ship that leads to a character called Blasto. Talk to him and he will ask the player for help by using the Buddy Slam ability on him, causing him to cough out a Pagie that can be picked up.
