Ghost Pirate is the skeletal captain of a spectral sailing ship encountered at Pirate’s Dock in Breegull Beach, the second main world of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge. He challenges Banjo and Kazooie from the water, accusing them of trying to steal his gold and threatening to answer with cannon fire. His visible form is a floating skull with a red bandanna and a dark eyepatch; the game does not show a complete body standing on the deck. The ship is much larger than its captain, with a green hull, several masts and pale sails decorated with skull-and-crossbones emblems. Its translucent appearance allows the background to show through, while the red-purple clouds and open water distinguish the battle view from the beach’s normal overhead exploration. The skull moves between different positions around the vessel, making the speaking captain the target rather than the sails or cannons. His short exchange uses exaggerated pirate dialect and includes a boast about avoiding egg on his face, a direct hint towards Kazooie’s ammunition. The confrontation is a separate treasure encounter within the world: Mecha-Grunty guards Kazooie earlier in the beach’s progression, whereas Ghost Pirate guards the gold associated with his ship. His dialogue supplies his motive and reaction to losing, but does not name him, explain how he died or establish that he works for Gruntilda. The encounter ends with his departure rather than an account of his destruction. He is distinct from both Captain Blubber and Captain Blackeye, and from the ordinary enemies and separate wrecks found around the coast.
Reaching Pirate’s Dock and Learning to Aim
Access to the fight depends on restoring the partnership and learning the relevant shooting move. Breegull Beach opens after Banjo has collected six Jiggies, but he initially explores it without Kazooie. First reach Quarry Heights and defeat Mecha-Grunty to release her; simply finding the dock before that rescue does not provide the complete set of abilities needed for its challenge. With Kazooie back in the backpack, visit Bozzeye near the dock, to the right of Mumbo’s Skull, for the Egg Blaster lesson, qualifying with at least 80 collected Notes. This enables the fixed shooting sections in which Banjo carries Kazooie in front of him and aims her eggs at distant targets. The starting point for the pirate encounter is the golden skull pad on the stone platform overlooking the sea. Stand on it to change from ordinary exploration to the battle view, with Banjo and Kazooie in the foreground and an aiming reticle over the water. The ship materializes ahead of the platform, and the captain delivers his warning before the attack begins. The setting can look like a ship that needs to be boarded, but the playable arena is the dock: there is no need to swim out to it, search for a gangplank or reach an interior cabin. Basic Blue Eggs are sufficient, so a later elemental-ammunition lesson is not a prerequisite. The shooting view also changes what the player must watch. Instead of judging the distance of jumps between beach platforms, follow the approaching cannonballs and the skull’s position around the moving vessel. The large ship provides the backdrop and source of enemy fire, while the much smaller exposed captain provides the opening for damage. Learning that distinction prevents ammunition being wasted on the hull.
Cannonball Volleys, Three Hits and the Treasure
Ghost Pirate alternates between firing from the ship and exposing his skull for an attack. Black cannonballs travel towards the dock in volleys, spreading the danger across the shooting view. Move sideways out of their paths rather than holding one position and concentrating only on the reticle; a hit costs health, and damage from an avoidable volley can make the next aiming opportunity harder to use. Once the volley ends, find the captain as he appears beside a different part of the vessel. Use the directional pad to move the reticle onto the skull and B to fire a Blue Egg while he is visible. A successful hit makes him react and withdraw, after which the next volley begins. Shooting a sail or continuing to fire where his skull used to be does not replace hitting the captain himself. Follow the ship’s movement and reacquire the target each time, since the next appearance can be above, below or beside the place of the previous one. The later volleys put more cannonballs on screen, so keep watching the gaps rather than assuming the original safe position will remain clear. Three successful hits defeat him. After the third hit, the ship becomes pale and fades from view as the pirate curses the heroes. His complaint reveals that they have taken the gold from beneath his one eye, followed by his decision to check that the rest of his treasure remains safe in the deep blue. The shooting sequence ends and the encounter yields a Jiggy for Banjo and Kazooie to collect at the dock. This reward belongs to Breegull Beach’s Jiggy total; it is not a Mumbo Totem or another transformation unlock. The pirate’s farewell describes a retreat to his other treasure. His moving battle ship should not be confused with Haunted Hold, the separate sunken wreck in Breegull Lagoon containing a Jinjo. Exploring that wreck and defeating this captain are different objectives, even though both use the world’s pirate and ship imagery.
