The Mutie Snippets are four mutated crabs guarding a Jiggy in Clanker’s Cavern in Banjo-Kazooie. They introduce themselves collectively as Snippet Mutants, while the character parade identifies them as Mutie-Snippets. Their green bodies, yellow undersides and uneven proportions distinguish them from the ordinary Snippets encountered elsewhere in the game. Each has an enlarged left eye with a reddish-brown center and an oversized right pincer, giving the face and claws a visibly lopsided shape. They move sideways on pointed legs and turn towards approaching intruders before charging. Their home is the green-lit chamber reached through an underwater pipe behind Clanker’s tail, rather than one of the passages inside his body. Clanker’s Cavern itself opens after placing five Jiggies in its picture in Gruntilda’s Lair; the nearby Shock Spring Pad reaches the picture platform, using the move Bottles teaches in Treasure Trove Cove. Once inside the world, follow the entrance passage into Clanker’s main water chamber, swim towards the wall behind him and look for the green-tinted pipe just below the surface. Dive through it, then surface in the mutants’ room. A raised walkway follows the wall, while narrow pipes lead inwards to the top of a large central drum. Bright beams shine through openings in that structure, illuminating the surrounding water and the crabs moving around it. The water can be swum through, with the usual air limit while submerged. Approaching the crabs prompts their hissing introduction, in which they claim the Jiggy and challenge Banjo and Kazooie to fight. All four belong to the same encounter, so defeating only the nearest pair does not release their treasure.
Battle Procedure and Collecting the Jiggy
Mutie Snippets use the familiar Snippet attack pattern: they scuttle towards Banjo and Kazooie and try to catch them with their claws. Allow enough room for a jump instead of standing between several charging crabs. Ordinary close attacks can knock a crab onto its back, leaving its underside exposed for a finishing hit. Complete that follow-up before it rights itself and resumes moving; merely flipping one over is not the same as defeating it. A more direct method is Beak Buster, already taught by Bottles in Mumbo’s Mountain. Jump above an approaching crab and slam down onto it to defeat it in one successful strike. The raised outer ledges offer places to line up the approach, and a Flap Flip gives additional height before the downward attack. Keep checking the space behind Banjo, since another mutant can close in while the first is being targeted. Wonderwing is another option once learned from Bottles in the backmost room inside Clanker, reached through the high passage from his stomach’s Flight Pad. Its Golden Feather protection allows the pair to run into a mutant and defeat it without taking contact damage, but the move and its ammunition are optional for this side chamber. After the fourth crab is defeated, the group concedes with another hissed message and the Jiggy appears on the raised central drum. Collecting it requires a short climb rather than searching the water for a dropped prize: get onto the outer walkway, reach one of the inward pipes and follow it to the center. Blue Eggs lie along the raised route, and eight Musical Notes are distributed around the chamber’s ledges. Gather any remaining pickups before swimming back through the entrance pipe to the main cavern. The mutants can reappear after leaving Clanker’s Cavern and returning, but once their Jiggy has been collected, they no longer repeat the introductory challenge or award another copy.
