Targitzan is the boss of Mayahem Temple, the first main world in Banjo-Tooie, and introduces himself as the mighty Mayan god of target shooting. His announced title is the Despotic Dizzy Totem God. He occupies the Really Sacred Chamber deep inside the world’s large central temple, although his voice addresses visitors before they reach him. His angular stone head has glowing green eyes, a red mouth with large square teeth and a broad, ridged headdress. Large pointed hands flank the head, while four rotating sections bearing bullseyes and dart-firing mouths form the body revealed during his battle. These sections make target shooting both his claimed specialty and the means of defeating him. The encounter uses Banjo’s Breegull Blaster stance, with Kazooie held forwards to fire eggs in a first-person view, rather than the ordinary third-person boss arena. Targitzan’s presence also extends beyond that room. Chief Bloatazin, his priest in Mayahem Temple’s separate Treasure Chamber, has lost the Sacred Priceless Relic Thingy, a golden idol stolen by the Unga Bunga cavemen. Recovering it through the passage to Terrydactyland earns another Jiggy from Bloatazin, but neither that relic nor its recovery replaces the green statues required for Targitzan’s own challenge. The god’s imposing introduction follows a more modest reward in his Slightly Sacred Chamber, encouraging Banjo and Kazooie to expect another easy Jiggy until he emerges beneath it. His appearance is later recalled in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, where a submerged model stands in Banjoland’s lake. Its museum information recalls his Really Sacred Chamber and the shooting battle. The exhibit preserves the earlier boss’s likeness without staging a new encounter with him.
The Temple Challenge and Sacred Chambers
Mayahem Temple opens through Jiggywiggy’s first challenge after obtaining the required one Jiggy, and its entrance is in the Isle O’ Hags’ Wooded Hollow. Follow the world’s uphill path towards the large temple, then find Jamjars along its side path to learn Breegull Blaster at thirty Notes. This lesson is separate from the twenty-five-Note Egg Aim move taught earlier in the world. Targitzan refuses entry until the bear and bird have learned what he calls the ancient art of bird handling. He also rejects Mumbo and the Stony transformation, insisting that Banjo and Kazooie enter together. Once admitted, the pair explore corridors, ramps and pillar rooms in first person while collecting green Sacred Statues. Their counter records progress towards two rewards: ten statues open the Slightly Sacred Chamber, which contains a Jiggy without a boss battle, and twenty grant entry to the Really Sacred Chamber. Search the colored rooms and the narrow passages behind wall panels, opening those panels with the interaction control. Statues lie in alcoves, along raised walkways and around the room guarded by a dart-shooting Sput Sput; shooting the jewel above that enemy’s eyes stuns it while the pair collect the nearby group. Moggies occupy the corridors, but ammunition and honeycomb pickups help replenish supplies during the search. The lower part of the maze leads to the sacred chambers, so return there when the required counter is reached rather than looking for the boss at the temple’s exterior summit. The rooftop Jiggy is another collectible entirely. Golden Eggs found inside the maze provide sixty seconds of rapid, unlimited firing, making a fresh pickup before the battle useful without consuming the ordinary Blue Egg supply during its effect. Leaving before completing his challenge prompts Targitzan to call the pair cowardly mortals. In the Really Sacred Chamber, the apparently unguarded Jiggy becomes the bait for his introduction: the entrance closes, he rises from the floor beneath it and the fight begins.
Battle Procedure and the Final Dart Burst
Targitzan remains in the center of the chamber while his body sections turn, presenting red-and-yellow bullseyes and, on the later sections, mouths that fire darts towards the player. His sixteen health points are divided between four target-bearing tiers, each requiring four successful hits. Aim at the lowest active tier with Blue Eggs or the temporary Golden Egg supply. A target can become available again after being struck, so the requirement is four hits on that tier rather than four different bullseyes. Shooting the head or an armored face does not replace hitting the targets. Keep moving sideways around him while aiming, using the rotation to bring another bullseye into view and moving away from mouths pointed towards Kazooie. Destroying a tier interrupts the target shooting while Targitzan summons Moggies to attack. Defeat every Moggie before the next section becomes active: the successive groups contain one, two, three and finally four enemies. Check around the whole central column if the battle seems to have stopped, since a surviving Moggie can be hidden behind it. Their dropped honeycombs provide opportunities to recover before resuming the fight. Each newly exposed tier offers fewer targets among more dart-firing faces, so later stages require a clearer shooting window and continued evasive movement. Recheck the direction of rotation after each interruption instead of relying on the previous tier’s movement. The stone barriers around the room can block darts while the pair take cover or adjust their position, but repeated hits destroy them and they do not regenerate. Avoid using up every piece of cover early if it is still possible to dodge by strafing. Destroying the fourth tier empties the health counter but does not immediately finish the encounter: clear the last four Moggies, then retreat from the remaining head. Targitzan invokes his sacred self-destruct and bursts apart, sending a final spread of darts across the room. Use a surviving barrier or keep well away from the center until the burst has passed, then collect the Jiggy left behind. Returning after a failed attempt produces a shorter introduction in which he insists he is still Targitzan. After victory, his entrance voice can still reject an incorrect form, but that reused response does not establish a second fight or explain the god’s physical fate.
