Old King Coal is a gigantic living pile of coal inhabiting the boiler of Chuffy the Train and resides inside Chuffy of the world Glitter Gulch Mine. When he meets Banjo and Kazooie for the first time, he thinks that the Duo want to steal the train and challenges the Duo for a fight. After the Duo has defeated him, Old King Coal lends Banjo and Kazooie his train to use it, as well as a golden Jiggy. However he also stated that the condition for loaning it was to not hit anything on the train. He also says that they are allowed to use the Go-Platform near the Boulder Room so Chuffy will drive the Duo between stations as a excuse. Old King Coal lives in the mines under the Plateau in a hot lava filled room awaiting Banjo and Kazooie’s entrance. A Mumbo spell is required to lift Chuffy back onto the tracks. Afterward, Banjo and Kazooie can enter the train, and attempt to use it, but they find out that the train’s owner Old King Coal informs them that Chuffy is his train. The duo must enter the train’s boiler to encounter Old King Coal and fight him.
» Battle Procedure
During the battle Old King Coal lumbers around in the room, while his body has no particular weak points, which means that the Duo can use any kind of attack to deal damage to Old King Coal. It’s still recommended to use ice eggs since it deals the biggest amount of damage to Old King Coal. After Banjo and Kazooie dealt enough damage to him, he will start losing one of his arms and will also get much faster than before. He will then start to progressively lose more of his body parts as he takes more damage including his right arm and his head. In addition he will turn up the heat inside the boiler, which will make the floor dangerous to walk and damage the Duo if they touch it. Also during the turn up, the room will get filled with toxic smoke so that Banjo and Kazooie will lose air over time. Pieces of debris will give the Duo protection of the hot ground and also of Old King Coal. It should be noted that Fire Eggs have no effect on him!
