Captain Blackeye is a distinctive character that can be found in Banjo-Tooie at the back of Jolly Roger’s Tavern in the world Jolly Roger’s Lagoon. He embodies the persona of a real pirate, and can be seen engaging in endless drinking. Captain Blackeye incessantly babbles about a brown bear that closely resembles Banjo who, according to him, has taken his fame. In Banjo-Tooie, his role is relatively minor, as he threatens to assault Banjo and Kazooie after the player speaks with him three times. On the fourth interaction, Captain Blackeye attempts to carry out his threat, but his seasickness causes him to stumble, leading him to request Banjo and Kazooie to fetch him a glass of water for two Doubloons. In a comical turn of events, he then collapses, but players can still speak with him and hear his infamous ramblings. Captain Blackeye was supposed to be the antagonist in the original version of Banjo-Kazooie, titled Dream Land of Giants. However, due to developmental issues, the game was never released. His recurring phrase that he had a dream once in Banjo-Tooie, is a nod to his involvement in the unreleased game. The phrase that a bear stole his glory alludes to how Dream Land of Giants was reworked into the game Banjo-Kazooie causing Blackeye to lose his leading villain role. Captain Blackeye makes a cameo appearance in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts as an image on a wanted poster and also in the form of Blackeye’s Boat Hire, a shop near Logbox 720, while he is also seen on the Boot-in-a-Box weapon part.
