Captain Blubber is a supportive character and a gray sea hippo in the Banjo-Kazooie series. He first appeared in Banjo-Kazooie as the Captain of The Salty Hippo, a wooden ship located in the Treasure Trove Cove level. In the game, Captain Blubber lost his golden treasure, and Banjo and Kazooie were tasked with recovering it. Both pieces of Captain Blubber’s treasure were found in the Salty Hippo itself. The first piece was located in the front half of the wooden ship, which could be accessed by swimming in the small pool filled with water and through the side of the ship. The second piece was in the back half of the Salty Hippo, and it could be retrieved by Beak Busting a small wooden box-like object to create a hole in the ship’s deck. Although Captain Blubber could not retrieve the treasure himself due to his inability to swim the protagonists were able to recover it and return it to him. At the end of the game after defeating the wicked witch, he is seen riding a wave racer into the sunset. In Banjo-Tooie, he owns an unsuccessful shop where he gives Banjo and Kazooie a pair of Turbo Trainers in exchange for one single doubloon. Afterwards, he leaves the store and provides a Shock Jump pad to help the protagonists get a Jinjo in the rafters. The Salty Hippo is sunken in Banjo-Tooie, but Captain Blubber still manages to make an appearance at the end of the game. He is seen riding the Saucer of Peril, even though he is too big to fit inside and is holding onto the controls. A sample of the song from Treasure Trove Cove is played during this scene. In Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, Captain Blubber makes a return appearance as Little Blubber, a younger version of himself. He and his small crew challenge the protagonists to a game, where they must hang onto the treasure chest longer than Blubber and his crew.
