The Bleaters are the sheep who live on Cliff Farm in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge. They appear in two encounters: a flock imprisoned in its own pen by a Gruntweed, and the sheep involved in Mrs. Bleater’s Sheep Dip challenge in Farm Heights. Both groups need Banjo’s help as enemies disrupt life around the farm. Freeing the pen occupants requires an attack and some careful timing, while helping Mrs. Bleater involves a fishing rod and twelve successful catches. Each task awards its own Jiggy. The sheep-catching activity also appears outside the farm adventure, through the game’s unlockable arcade selection and the later mobile compilation Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge Missions.
The Sheep of Cliff Farm
The Bleaters’ name refers to a sheep’s bleat, and their conversations turn that sound into a recurring joke. Stretched sheep noises interrupt ordinary words, including Banjo’s name, their descriptions of danger and their congratulations. The pen occupants appeal to the bear directly, while Mrs. Bleater gives instructions and reacts to the result of his attempt. Banjo joins in with sheep and wool puns when he fails her challenge. The sheep rely on Banjo to deal with threats around their pens and offer Jiggies in return for his assistance. Mrs. Bleater is the named sheep associated with Sheep Dip; the other members of the flock are addressed collectively.
The Gruntweed at the Sheep Pen
One group of Bleaters is trapped behind a Gruntweed on the eastern side of the farm. From the world entrance, climb the hay bales on the right and follow the raised route towards the sheep pen. The creature admits that it is preventing the sheep from leaving because it finds their predicament entertaining. Banjo objects, and the Bleaters plead for him to remove their tormentor. Reaching the pen is therefore only the first part of the rescue: the Gruntweed still controls the passage and has to be defeated before the flock is free. This encounter takes place separately from the sheep-catching field in Farm Heights.
Freeing the Flock
Use Pack Whack against the Gruntweed after provoking its attack. Move underneath it briefly to draw out the downward slam, then retreat beyond the impact before it lands. The failed strike leaves the creature stuck in the ground and exposes the opportunity to hit it with Banjo’s backpack. Bozzeye teaches Pack Whack in Spiral Mountain once Banjo has ten Musical Notes, so the rescue uses an ability available early in the adventure. After the Gruntweed is defeated, the Bleaters celebrate their freedom and invite Banjo to take the golden Jiggy inside their pen. Collect it there to finish their request; the sheep do not need to be caught with a rod or led to Mrs. Bleater.
Mrs. Bleater and Sheep Dip
Mrs. Bleater’s activity is reached in Farm Heights by jumping onto the two barrels beneath the field and crossing the ledge into the sheep area. She is worried about bathing safely while enemies are roaming the farm and asks Banjo to help the little Bleaters. Her solution gives the bear a rod with which to catch the passing sheep. Entering the field begins Sheep Dip, changing the action from ordinary exploration to a timed casting challenge. The objective is to catch twelve sheep within fifty seconds. This activity can be completed during Banjo’s early exploration of Cliff Farm, before Kazooie is rescued; it does not require the Mouse transformation or the later Roll lesson.
Casting the Line and Catching Twelve Sheep
Move Banjo left or right with the Control Pad to choose where the line will travel. Hold B to build casting power, using the gauge in the upper-left corner to judge the distance, then release the button to send out the bait. A longer hold produces a farther cast, so sheep at different depths require different amounts of power. Watch the flock’s movement before committing: a cast aimed at a sheep’s previous position can miss as it crosses the field. When two sheep line up along the same casting path, one cast can bring both back. Using those crossings saves time, while varying the charge is necessary to reach sheep beyond the nearest row.
The Sheep Dip Reward and Another Attempt
Catching the required twelve sheep before the timer expires earns Mrs. Bleater’s congratulations and a Jiggy. Return below the barrels at the entrance to the field to collect this reward. The pen rescue’s Jiggy remains a separate prize in a different part of Cliff Farm, so finishing one sheep task does not finish the other. If the timer runs out before enough sheep are caught, Banjo comments on his woolly performance and tells Mrs. Bleater that he will return when ready. Another attempt offers the same opportunity to adjust the casting distances and catch sheep as their paths cross.
Replaying Sheep Dip and the Mobile Version
After the main adventure, Sheep Dip is one of the minigames available through N. Kreditz Arcade. Unlocking its selection costs forty gold credits coins. The arcade version provides a way to return directly to the sheep-catching activity, using the same left/right positioning and charged B-button casts rather than navigating back through Farm Heights. The forty-coin purchase belongs to the postgame minigame collection, where Sheep Dip sits alongside the other activities encountered during the adventure. Sheep Dip returns in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge Missions, the mobile minigame compilation released in 2005. Its sheep-catching premise carries over: Banjo uses a fishing rod to catch sheep passing in front of him. The compilation builds its progression around short activities adapted from the Game Boy Advance adventure, placing Sheep Dip alongside games such as Egg Scramble and Grubby Chute. In the mobile game, Banjo earns Jiggies through these challenges to rescue Kazooie. Sheep Dip retains the unusual fishing-for-sheep premise within that sequence of short activities.
