Mr. Blowy is the name used by the talking metal vents encountered throughout Yooka-Laylee and Yooka-Replaylee. One friendly individual in Tribalstack Tropics asks Yooka and Laylee to bring him a drink because his throat has become dry from blowing air all day. Helping him earns a Pagie and lets him return to work. Other vents use the same rectangular metal face, large eyes, corner rivets and grille-like mouth, but act as obstacles that breathe fire, blow the heroes off platforms or create underwater currents. Some also supply useful updrafts.
The Thirsty Mr. Blowy in Tribalstack Tropics
In the original Yooka-Laylee, the friendly Mr. Blowy waits on the outside of the Tribalstack Monument, the tall structure added when the world is expanded. Opening Tribalstack Tropics costs one Pagie and expanding it costs another three. Climb the Monument until the route branches, take the left-hand walkway and pass through its doorway to reach the area overlooking the circular platform with a rotating ramp. Mr. Blowy complains that his throat is dry after a day spent puffing. A Water Berry plant on a separate platform supplies the drink, but Yooka needs Slurp Shot to use it. Trowzer teaches this move in Tribalstack Tropics, so learn it before attempting the delivery. Step on the central switch to turn the ramp towards the plant’s platform, cross to the berries and take the water power. Return to a position facing Mr. Blowy and fire water into his mouth. Once refreshed, he can resume blowing air and the nearby Pagie is made available.
Wind, Flames and Underwater Currents
Mr. Blowy counterparts appear in Hivory Towers and across the five Grand Tome worlds. Their effect depends on what comes from the grille. Wind can push the duo sideways from narrow platforms, while an upward stream can help them reach a higher ledge. The metal state obtained by licking a cannonball with Slurp State makes Yooka heavy enough to resist wind, which is useful on the Monument’s upper walkways and in Glitterglaze Glacier. Underwater bubble jets create currents that impede swimming; Buddy Bubble provides the means to push through them. Fire vents require a different response: wait for a safe interval and move or jump past the flame. Contact normally costs one health unit, while being burned during a Kartos challenge removes five gems from the run. Watch the jet’s direction and rhythm before committing to a crossing, and keep enough space to recover from a push. A switch may temporarily disable a particular vent as part of its local puzzle.
Blastooie’s Monument Challenge
The Monument also places Mr. Blowy vents opposite Blastooie, the cannon on the higher part of the structure. His request to deliver presents becomes a shooting task against the rotating vent faces. Yooka and Laylee operate the cannon by using Buddy Slam on its back, firing cannonballs towards the targets. Time the shots as the four faces turn into the firing line, and keep firing at the remaining targets until all four are knocked down. Completing the set earns a separate Pagie. This encounter connects the vents with Blastooie’s conversation and his hostile idea of gift delivery, while the thirsty Mr. Blowy’s request is resolved by water on the lower route.
Mr. Blowy in Yooka-Replaylee
Yooka-Replaylee retains the friendly vent’s drink request as the Feeling Thirsty Pagie. From the Monument’s front route, pass through the interior, exit behind its Pagie and follow the outside path round to the left. Mr. Blowy and the reward cage are beside a set of floating platforms. Cross those platforms to the water pickup, take its power and bring it back to squirt water into his mouth. The game’s Water Bomb terminology refers to the water power needed for this returning task. Worlds begin expanded and the duo’s moves are available from the start, so the original expansion payment and Slurp Shot purchase are not prerequisites here. A nearby Pagie Piece sits along the floating-platform route, reached with the help of its rotating-platform switch. Higher on the Monument, the metal state still allows progress through wind, and the cannon task again involves knocking down four vents. Elsewhere, Glacier vents interfere with timed platforming and guard a chest that can be reached by using a switch to stop the airflow. Moodymaze Marsh also uses upward-blowing vents to lift the heroes towards wooden towers and an ice pickup. The remake keeps the contrast between Mr. Blowy’s personal request and the many uses of his vent counterparts.
