Dr. Quack, the green mallard duck with a yellow bill and a white ring around his neck, serves as a major antagonists in the video game Yooka-Laylee. He is depicted as the ruthless and traitorous head of Quack Corp, a business recently acquired by a factory called Hivory Towers. Dr. Quack is highly skilled and intelligent in his field, but his mental instability as well as malicious nature make him a real adversary for Yooka and Laylee. The character’s name is derived from the sound that a duck makes, and is also a used phrase for a crazy person. Ironically, Dr. Quack is highly skilled and intelligent in his field, although his actions are often unethical and morally questionable. His army of Corplet creations work for the game’s main antagonist Capital B, his new boss, and he is constantly trying to stop Yooka and Laylee’s progress throughout their journey. His appearance is unique and memorable, as Dr. Quack pilots a red biosuit that is a motorized gumball machine full of pink, breathable, bubbly fluid. His gumball machine is equipped with a thick metal antenna on top, which has a doctor’s head mirror worn around its bowl and claims to have amputated his own legs. One of Dr. Quack’s notable inventions is the Novelizer 64, which can steal all the books in the world, such as the golden book that Yooka and Laylee have found in Shipwreck Creek. He also holds a Quickfire Quiz between various sections of Hivory Towers, which is a multiple-choice quiz with different questions about the previous worlds. In support of the development of Capital B’s plans, Dr. Quack stole all the research of his friend Dr. Puzz, leaving her unemployed. Overall Dr. Quack is a complex and intriguing character, whose role adds excitement to the game.
