Grip Grab

The Grip Grab ability is an essential technique in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, first introduced in the game Banjo-Tooie and learnt in the world Mayahem Temple from Jamjars. It enables players to progress from Wooded Hollow to Plateau and reach other playable worlds in the game’s hub world, Isle O’ Hags. When the protagonists jumps towards a ledge, Banjo can grip onto the ledge and climb up by using the A button, drop down by pressing Z button, or climb along the side. The Grip Grab move is really useful for getting on top of just-too-tall platforms and moving along thin platforms that are difficult to walk across. Its main use, however, is moving along ledges that are inset in walls. Often, there are rare collectibles like Cheato Pages or Jinjos on the opposite side of a ledge that Banjo and Kazooie can find. Snapdragons often make their nests around Grip Grab ledges and can be dangerous enemies, because they can cause Banjo and Kazooie to fall from great heights and take lethal damage. If Kazooie is accompanying Banjo, pressing the B button while on a Grip Grab ledge will allow her to peck enemies to defeat them. However, even without Kazooie, the Snapdragon’s snapping pattern is predictable and avoidable with good timing. The Grip Grab holds the distinction of being the only move that Banjo can use on his own but Kazooie can’t in the game. In Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, Bozzeye teaches Banjo and Kazooie how to use the Grip Grab. However, in this game, the Grip Grab’s use is slightly different, as it’s used to climb up obstacles like trees instead of grabbing onto small ledges and pulling Banjo over to the opposite side. Players can learn the Grip Grab for forty Musical Notes in the first world, Cliff Farm in front of the massive mountain next to the world entrance. In conclusion, the Grip Grab ability is an essential tool that allows players to progress through the game and find rare collectibles.
