Jamjars

Jamjars, the assertive drill sergeant mole, plays a significant supporting role in Banjo-Tooie. He is the brother of Bottles the mole, the character he takes over from in teaching Banjo and Kazooie abilities both together and separately. Jamjars can be found in hatches located around the Isle O’ Hags and its playable worlds. In the world Mayahem Temple, Jamjars learns of Bottles demise and agrees to help Banjo and Kazooie in their adventure by teaching them useful abilities along the way. Whenever the protagonists find a new collectible for the first time, even before meeting Jamjars, he explains its purpose and usage. Furthermore, he provides the duo with access to his network of silos to quickly travel between areas. Unlike Bottles, Jamjars charges the duo Musical Notes before teaching them advanced techniques. Upon teaching a move, Jamjars marches to a military theme and rhymes as he explains the ability. He then dismisses Banjo and Kazooie and retreats back into his hatch, which has its light change to green. Occasionally, after he teaches a move and opens the hatch to leave, it closes before he can enter, causing him to hit his head. He crawls back into the hatch and opens it again to retrieve his hat. If Banjo and Kazooie stand next to a green-lighted silo and press the B button, Jamjars quickly recaps how to use the move they learnt at that silo. Additionally, if the protagonists health bar is low when they learn a move from Jamjars, he provides them with rations to instantly refill it. Furthermore, Jamjars is playable in the multiplayer Breegull Shooting game, boasting eight Honeycombs and being the second slowest character. He is still a small target, making it difficult to hit him. If Mumbo Jumbo tries to interact with Jamjars, he tells him that Jamjars advanced training school is for bears and birds only and not for others. Moreover, Jamjars head icon represents the Miscellaneous section of the jukebox in the bar, Jolly’s. He also talks to Banjo and Kazooie when they read a signpost or try to enter an off-limits place, as shown from his speech icon, although without being physically present. In the ending, Jamjars arrives at Bottles House expecting to party but finds out that Klungo has eaten everything. He then goes to Cauldron Keep with his other friends to play a game of kickball using Grunty’s head. Jamjars makes an appearance in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts as the DJ of Spiral Mountain F.M. He speaks to Banjo and Kazooie through a radio machine, reminding them that it has been more than ten years since they first were created and teasingly calling them all fat and washed up now. Interestingly, he was intended to play a more significant role in the game during his development. When the layout of Showdown Town was still being conceptualized, he was set to run the gym instead of Boggy, but this idea was scrapped and Boggy was given the role.
