Kazooie, the red-crested breegull and main protagonist in the Banjo-Kazooie series, is known for her sharp wit, insults, and jabbering. She lives in Banjo’s backpack most of the time, occasionally popping her head out to engage with other supportive characters. Although Kazooie leaves the backpack on occasion, her friendship with Banjo always brings her back. Her name, like Banjo’s is based on a musical instrument, known as kazoo. She is an experienced kazoo player, although it appears more like a bugle than a kazoo. According to Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, Banjo discovered Kazooie in the world Breegull Beach inside a blue backpack. They became friends at some point afterward, and she lived with Banjo and his sister Tooty for an unknown period. Later in Banjo-Kazooie, she convinced her friend Banjo to embark on an exciting adventure, with Tooty tagging along. Their adventure led to Gruntilda capturing Tooty, forcing a rescue operation that involved acquiring cool abilities and witch-bashing. After their success, Kazooie insisted that she and Banjo continue to practice their moves and refine their abilities, convinced that they had not seen the last of Gruntilda. Her instincts proved correct in the game Banjo-Tooie when Gruntilda’s sisters called Mingella and Blobbelda rescued her, destroying Banjo’s House in the process and killing Bottles. Kazooie was eager to go on another adventure, and while Bottles’ brother Jamjars annoyed her as much as Bottles did, she learned to separate from Banjo and defeat the witch’s minions on her own. In the video game Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, after eight years of inactivity Gruntilda reappeared alongside the Lord of Games, a near-omnipotent character who set up a vehicle-based tournament between Banjo, Kazooie, and Gruntilda Winkybunion for the rights to Spiral Mountain. However, Kazooie was not happy about this and felt like she got the shaft when Lord of Games swapped her moves for a magical wrench. But after a challenging journey, Banjo defeated Gruntilda Winkybunion and received the deeds to his home. Kazooie also regained her old techniques, making the adventure worthwhile. In the game Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing with Banjo-Kazooie, Kazooie joined her friend Banjo in a racing tournament against Sonic and friends after hearing rumors about it. Also, Kazooie became available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on as the fourth DLC playable character, along with her friend Banjo. In this game, Kazooie’s design is more reminiscent of the games Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie than in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. Overall, Kazooie’s character has been a crucial part of the Banjo-Kazooie series, known for her wit, humor, and constant desire for adventure. Despite her annoyance with Banjo’s constant desire to help others, their friendship have led them through many unforgettable adventures.
