King Jingaling is a beloved figure in the Banjo-Kazooie series, serving as the king of Jinjo Village and a powerful ally to Banjo and Kazooie in their adventures. This prominent character made his first appearance in the video game Banjo-Tooie, where he is depicted as a big, yellow Jinjo who resides in a magnificent golden palace at the heart of Jinjo Village. He can often be found sitting on his throne with his loyal pet, known as Toots. Upon meeting Banjo and Kazooie, King Jingaling reveals that Gruntilda Winkybunion and her wicked sisters had previously terrorized Jinjo Village causing all the Jinjos to flee from their homes in fear. To aid the duo on their quest, King Jingaling grants them a valuable Jiggy to start their journey. However, as they leave the palace, Gruntilda and her sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda, use the Big-O’-Blaster machine to suck up the life force of the King, turning him into a gray, evil zombie. His pet Toots is reduced to a pile of ash, with only a pair of blinking eyes remaining. Throughout the game, King Jingaling provides helpful hints on how to defeat bosses and other enemies. However, players must be cautious when approaching him in his zombie form, as he may attack unexpectedly. Furthermore, it’s interesting to note that while King Jingaling is the ruler of the Jinjo Village, the Jinjonator is regarded as a more powerful character and a sort of ruler by the Jinjo Oracles. Despite his position of power, King Jingaling is portrayed as youthful and energetic, frequently using slang terms like yo and wassup. He is also notable for being one of the few supportive characters that Kazooie doesn’t insult, and she even compliments his strange pet thingy. However, the protagonist Banjo often gets his name wrong which irritates him sometimes. Interestingly, the transformation of King Jingaling into a zombie is accompanied by a haunting theme song, which players can permanently miss if they do not visit him in his throne room while he is a zombie. When players unlock the Jukebox found inside Jolly’s Tavern in Jolly Roger’s Lagoon the song doesn’t appear in the list, as players must visit him while he is a zombie. Nonetheless, Banjo and Kazooie are able to revive King Jingaling and reunite him with his pet, Toots, using the Big-O’-Blaster to infiltrate Gruntilda’s hideout, Cauldron Keep.

» King Jingaling in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts

In the game Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, King Jingaling makes an appearance in the hub world Showdown Town, where he operates a Bingo Palace, a large castle-like building located south of Klungo’s Arcade, by the lake. King Jingaling’s palace hosts a bingo game, using the Jinjo Tokens that players can obtain by completing Jinjo-Challenges. The colorful Jinjo Tokens are placed on a given board in their corresponding colored slots, and the objective is to fill each row or column entirely for various prizes. Unlike traditional bingo, players can move Jinjo Tokens around on the board even after being put into play until a row or a column is complete. Once a row or column is filled, all the Jinjo Tokens within it will be cemented in place and won’t move. The game is won by filling every slot on the given board with the Jinjo Tokens obtained in the game. Completing a row rewards the player with Musical Notes, while a filled column yields exciting vehicle parts such as Folding Wings. While Jinjo Bingo may not follow the exact rules of American Bingo, the concept is similar. Upon playing Jinjo Bingo and winning a prize, King Jingaling may talk about going into the window cleaning business, adding a touch of humor to the game. King Jingaling’s presence in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts provides players with a fun and unique way to earn rewards using the Jinjo Tokens collected throughout the game. Bingo Palace is a great addition to Showdown Town, adding a fun activity to enjoy in addition to the many challenges available in the game.
