Leaky, a damaged bucket, had his initial appearance in the first installment of the Banjo-Kazooie video game series. Within the game’s second playable world Treasure Trove Cove, Leaky can be found seated on a ledge that is adjacent to the Sandcastle on the right side of the world. True to his name his functionality is compromised due to a hole, leading him to seek assistance from the protagonists. To aid Leaky, the player-controlled characters, Banjo and Kazooie, have to position themselves in front of him and skillfully launch Blue Eggs in a backward trajectory, attempting to land them inside Leaky. Once two Blue Eggs have been successfully landed, Leaky’s damage is repaired, prompting him to reciprocate the favor by assisting the heroes. Rather than rewarding them with a Jiggy, as other supporting characters might do, Leaky proceeds to drain the nearby water, enabling the protagonists to access the Sandcastle and obtain a Jiggy. Additionally, this action allows players to activate cheat codes that facilitate gameplay enhancements or unlock unique collectibles such as Stop ‘n’ Swop. Interestingly, Leaky’s significance as a character often goes unnoticed, considering his minor role in the overall Banjo-Kazooie game. However, he does resurface during Grunty’s Furnace Fun, found at the top of the lair, where the game’s antagonist Gruntilda Winkybunion poses a question to the protagonists about the leaking bucket’s name in Treasure Trove Cove. For many players of the series, Leaky proves to be an invaluable character due to his pivotal role in granting Banjo and Kazooie access to the Sandcastle in Treasure Trove Cove, allowing to enter codes by using the Beak Buster on the letters found on the ground.
