Mayahem Temple

Mayahem Temple is a sprawling, Mayan-inspired location that serves as the first playable world in Banjo-Tooie. Nestled within Isle O’Hags, Mayahem Temple features a variety of structures and ruins that capture the essence of the ancient civilization. However, the focal point of this world is undoubtedly the pyramid-shaped temple at its center that serves as the domain of the Mayan’s totemic god, Targitzan. One of the most distinctive features of Mayahem Temple is the presence of stone doors that line the outer walls. These doors serve as gateways to various sections of the world, and can only be opened with the aid of the Golden Goliath, which Banjo and Kazooie can summon by using Mumbo’s magic on a nearby pad. Controlling the Golden Goliath, players can kick open these doors and explore the different areas of the temple. One of the most interesting sections within Mayahem Temple is the Jade Snake Grove, accessible through one of the stone doors. Here, players will encounter the native American woman Humba Wumba for the first time in the game. She offers her transformation services, allowing Banjo and Kazooie to change their appearance by using the pink pool inside her Wigwam. To access the Kickball Stadium, which is located in the North of the hill, players must first use Humba Wumba’s services to transform into a Stony. In addition to Humba Wumba, players will also encounter Jamjars. Jamjars, a mole who serves as the protagonists weapons instructor, will teach the player three new abilities, including the Breegull Blaster, Egg Aiming, and Grip Grab. The Grip Grab is particularly useful, as it allows them to grip onto small ledges and climb up walls they would not otherwise be able to reach. To access this world, players must obtain the game’s first Jiggy from King Jingaling. With the Jiggy in hand, they can enter the Jiggywiggy Temple and complete the picture challenge to unlock the entrance door to Mayahem Temple. Once inside Mayahem Temple, players will need to collect a number of items and solve puzzles to progress through the world and unlock the next one.

» Shortcuts in Mayahem Temple

In the vast and complex first world Mayahem Temple players are granted access to three helpful shortcuts that can transport them to other worlds. The first shortcut is located in the lobby of the Kickball Stadium and leads to the Colosseum of Hailfire Peaks. This shortcut serves as a means to transform the protagonists into a Stony while in Mayahem Temple and participate in the finals held in the Colosseum of Hailfire Peaks. The second one is located within the prison of the Prison Compound and leads to the second world Glitter Gulch Mine. It is located inside the Prospectors Hut and is mainly used for obtaining a Jiggy in Glitter Gulch Mine. To access it, players must use the Stony transformation in order to communicate with another fellow Stony found in the Prison Compound who will provide the code sequence to enter the prison. A large boulder must then be demolished using Kazooie’s Bill Drill technique to retrieve Dilberta and gain access to the second shortcut. The final shortcut of Mayahem Temple is located in the Treasure Chamber, where Chief Bloatazin resides. Players are able to reach a higher level of the chamber by using the Talon Trot and walking up one of the treasure mounds and accessing a tunnel that leads to Terrydactyland inside Unga Bunga’s cave. The golden relic of Chief Bloatazin is inside the cave, which has been stolen by one of the Unga Bunga’s. To earn a Jiggy, players must use Banjo’s Tip-Toe technique to steal the golden relic and return to Mayahem Temple to bring it back to Chief Bloatazin.
