Mumbo Token

Mumbo Tokens are valuable collectible found in the Banjo-Kazooie series known for their distinct silver color and the resemblance to Mumbo Jumbo’s skull. These small Tokens were stolen from the pink shaman, Mumbo Jumbo, by the witch Gruntilda Winkybunion, who then scattered them across various worlds and within her lair. The protagonists, Banjo and Kazooie, must retrieve the Mumbo Tokens and return them to Mumbo Jumbo, who appears in certain worlds. In exchange for these Mumbo Ttokens, Mumbo will transform them into an object that matches the theme of the world. The number of Mumbo Tokens required for each transformation spell is indicated by a sign inside the pink shaman’s house, and the Mumbo Tokens are paid in increments of five. Once the Mumbo Tokens have been paid, Banjo and Kazooie are able to use the transformation spell as many times as they need. In total, there are one-hundred-fifteen Mumbo Tokens to be found throughout the game, though only seventy-five of them are necessary to use all transformations in the game. There are technically one-hundred-sixteen Mumbo Tokens that players can collect in Banjo-Kazooie, however, two of them in the world Mad Monster Mansion share a boolean. This means that if one of the Tokens is collected, the other token will disappear. Despite this quirk, a video has shown that it is actually possible to collect both Mumbo Tokens by using the pumpkin transformation in Mad Monster Monster and collect them using this form. Mumbo Tokens can be found throughout the game, adding an exciting dimension to its gameplay and providing players with a rewarding challenge as they seek out and collect all one-hundred-fifteen of them.

» Mumbo Tokens in Banjo-Kazooie Grunty's Revenge

In Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, Mumbo Tokens make a triumphant return but with a slightly different appearance compared to their usual design. These Tokens have the same purpose as in the original game, allowing Banjo and Kazooie to transform into various creatures and objects to surmount obstacles that would otherwise impede their progress. Notably, there is a change in the collection system of Mumbo Tokens. Unlike in the previous game, where players were tasked with collecting one-hundred and fifteen Mumbo Tokens, this iteration only features four Mumbo Tokens throughout the entire game. They can be obtained by defeating the world bosses, either Klungo or Mecha-Grunty, to earn them as a reward for their victory. It’s important to note that the second world, Breegull Beach, does not contain any Mumbo Tokens. Instead, players will receive Kazooie, the red-feathered breegull, as a reward. Once a new Mumbo Token is acquired, players can present it to the shaman, Mumbo Jumbo, to unlock a brand-new transformation. Compared to the game Banjo-Kazooie, the handheld game only features four transformations that can be unlocked, including the Mouse Form, Candle Form, Squid Form, and Tank Form. Moreover, once players unlock a new transformation, they can use it an unlimited number of times across every world. As the handheld game takes place in the past, due to its time-travel plot, the new looking Mumbo Tokens are believed to be the original form of Mumbo Tokens from Banjo-Kazooie.
