Officer Unogopaz

Officer Unogopaz is a non-playable character who combines the imposing stature of a tiger with the wily attributes of a Moggy, making his first debut in Banjo-Tooie. As the stalwart guard of the Kickball Stadium within the game’s first world, known as Mayahem Temple, he upholds the rules with a no-nonsense attitude, allowing only Stonies to participate in the popular kickball stadium matches. When Banjo and Kazooie arrive for the first time, eager to join the kickball fray, they are met with disappointment. However, Unogopaz denies their entry, mentioning the kickball event is sold out, an unfortunate turn for Banjo and Kazooie who were busy elsewhere when the tickets went on a sale. Despite Banjo’s hard efforts to negotiate and Kazooie’s less-than-subtle attempt to sway the officer with a bribe, Unogopaz remains unyielding. Unogopaz’s stern rebuke to their bribery highlights his integrity as he emphasizes the respectability of the Stoney Kickball League and firmly instructs them to leave instantly. However, the scenario takes an interesting turn when the duo, transformed into a Stony, approaches him another time. Officer Unogopaz, sharp-eyed and astute, is not deceived by the disguise. Yet, recognizing the need for players, he relents and allows Banjo and Kazooie to pass, which is a testament to his pragmatic side. The name Officer Unogopaz echoes his role by phonetically mimicking the phrase “You No Go Past,” serving as a fitting reference to his duty as a steadfast guardian. Interestingly, he is the only character within the game who consistently sees through Banjo and Kazooie’s transformations, indicating a level of perception that other non-playable characters in the game lack. Even when Banjo denies such recognition, Unogopaz isn’t duped, especially when Kazooie’s voice gives them away.

QUOTES

Of course it’s cool. Everyone wants to see the Stony Kickball Games!

Sorry, but there’s no way you’re coming in here.

Nice try, but I’m afraid you can’t. The games are only open to stonies.

But they’re a bit short on players, so you might as well go in anyway.

Hmm … I don’t know. That backpack looks kinda familiar …
