One Book

The One Book is a mythical Grand Tome possessing the immense power to alter the fabric of the universe itself. In the Yooka-Laylee franchise, the nefarious Capital B seeks out the One Book to harness its power. The One Book’s name is likely a nod to the One Ring from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series. Its cover is a deep purple hue adorned with gold studs at each corner, and its pages are made up of golden Pagies. It was discovered by Laylee, who sought to turn it over for a hefty profit. However, before the events of the game unfold, the One Book is snatched away by Dr. Quack’s new invention, called Novelizer 64, sucking it into the depths of Hivory Towers, much to the dismay of the duo. The Pages of the One Book, sensing Capital B’s sinister intentions, flee from its cover and scatter themselves throughout the hub world Hivory Towers and the five Tome worlds within. The burden of recovering the lost Pagies and returning the One Book to its original state falls on the shoulders of the protagonists. In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the One Book is portrayed as a sentient being, hidden within the Bat Ship at Shipwreck Creek, hoping to evade Capital B’s grasp. In addition, The One Book reveals that only the powerful Infinity Ink can properly edit all its contents. The scattered Pagies of the One Book can be found throughout the overworld known as Royal Stingdom and possess the ability to influence the terrain. Players who successfully complete the game Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair without dying on the first attempt at the titular chapter will be treated to a secret cutscene. The scene shows Laylee using the One Book’s spare Pagies as well as the Infinity Ink provided by a mysterious stranger, to write a storybook detailing the game’s events, presumably sets the stage for the plot. Interestingly, the One Book makes a cameo appearance in Sole Survivor Games’ Honey, I Joined a Cult as a rare collectible that can be obtained randomly by players through Object Acquisition missions.
