Pirate Treasures

If you’ve played the Banjo-Kazooie games, you’re likely familiar with the name Stop ‘n’ Swop, that special feature involving six differently colored mysterious eggs and an ice key used to unlock various rewards. Since Stop ‘n’ Swop remains a popular topic among players, Playtonic Games created a similar feature in Yooka-Laylee. Instead of colored eggs, the developers chose crystal skulls known as Pirate Treasures. Each world within Hivory Towers contains one Pirate Treasure, typically hidden in places that players might easily overlook during normal gameplay. According to online sources, the skull located in the fifth world, Galleon Galaxy, presents the greatest challenge to find because its hiding place differs significantly from typical collectible locations in the game. Whenever you collect a Pirate Treasure, a dark, creepy, and dramatically ominous organ tune plays as the crystal skull disappears into Yooka’s inventory. Unlike the Stop ‘n’ Swop items in Banjo-Kazooie, Pirate Treasures don’t appear in a window or inventory screen. Currently, the purpose of these skulls remains unknown. However, given their similarities to Stop ‘n’ Swop, players speculate that Pirate Treasures will unlock rewards in future Yooka-Laylee games. Though they serve no function in the current game, finding all Pirate Treasures unlocks three achievements.
