Sabreman

Sabreman, the iconic protagonist of the Sabreman series by Ultimate Play The Game, has made cameo appearances in several of Rareware’s games. In year 2004, Sabreman made a return to the gaming scene as the lead character in Sabre Wulf for the device Game Boy Advance. While he played a minor role in Banjo-Tooie, his frozen body, clutching a familiar-shaped treasure, was discovered by the protagonists on the Icy Side of Hailfire Peaks. Unfortunately, he was deceased and could not be revived by heating him up with Kazooie’s Fire Eggs or the nearby fireplace. The first step in rescuing Sabreman was to use Mumbo Jumbo’s magic in order to bring him back to life. However, he still remained cold, so the duo had to use Fire Eggs, Hatch or Dragon Kazooie to warm him up. Once Sabreman was revived and warmed up, Banjo had to carry him on his back using the Taxi Pack technique to reach the Fire Side of Hailfire Peaks. After successfully rescuing Sabreman, he rewarded the protagonists with a Jiggy that he had stashed in his tent. Sabreman was then content to sleep perpetually for the remainder of the game. Interestingly, while he was sleeping, he talked in his sleep, stating that he wonders what adventures await him and that he maybe will ride a dolphin. Since Rare was still a part of Nintendo at the time and their next game console used the code name Dolphin, many players speculated that this was an obvious hint at a future next-gen Sabreman title. However, Sabreman’s future game was released on the Game Boy Advance, and a later next-gen title, Sabreman Stampede, was ultimately canceled back in year 2007. The only next-gen appearance of Sabreman was in the 2009 Banjo-Tooie port for the Xbox Live Arcade. Despite the limited appearances of Sabreman in Rare’s games, his character remains a beloved one. Also, the Sabreman franchise and Sabreman’s inclusion in other games adds to Rare’s vast and memorable cast of characters. While Sabreman’s future in the gaming world remains uncertain, his legacy and impact on gaming history are always undeniable.
