In the game Yooka-Laylee, players have the opportunity to encounter a special character known as Shovel Knight. He, originally from the successful Kickstarter-funded 2D sidescrolling platform game Shovel Knight, created by Yacht Club Games, was on a long adventure when he ended up in the wrong game. Shovel Knight, as his name suggests, is a big knight donning blue armor with a unique weapon, which is a shovel. With his horned helmet and trusty shovel, he can be found in front of the Tribalstack Shrine that is behind the Tribalstack Village. Here, he tasks the player with retrieving his valuable jewel in exchange for an adventuring secret. To reach it, Yooka and Laylee must climb up the mountain, using the Slurp Shot ability to consume Frostberries to hit switches that will either stop or activate the spinning platforms necessary for ascending the shrine. Once at the top, Yooka and Laylee can shoot a red jewel found inside the eye of the stone statue using Frostberries, collect the red jewel and return it to Shovel Knight. As a reward, he’ll dig up a Pagie for the protagonists to collect. Another encounter with Shovel Knight takes place inside a locked gate located in a cave found on Skull Island in the game’s fifth world, Galleon Galaxy. In order to open the iron gate, Yooka and Laylee have to retrieve four golden keys, one from each Knight of Hamalot. Shovel Knight provides them with the necessary information to retrieve each key from each knight. Once all four golden keys have been collected, Shovel Knight will open the gate for the player to collect the Pagie inside. His appearance and weapon add an interesting element to Yooka-Laylee, allowing players to talk with and complete quests for this beloved character.
