The Split-up maneuver is one of the most highly-anticipated abilities in the Banjo-Kazooie game series, and makes its debut in Banjo-Tooie within the third world, Witchyworld. In order to unlock it players have to locate Jamjars in the Western Zone near the Crazy Castle. Once unlocked, the player can use the maneuver by having Banjo step on the Banjo Pad and pressing the A button causing Kazooie to get out of her backpack and land onto the Kazooie Pad. This gives the player control of Banjo, and to switch over to Kazooie, he simply needs to stand on the Banjo Pad again and press the A button. Alternatively, players can use Swap Clouds, which are visible as colorful sparkles in certain areas, to switch between characters by pressing the A button while standing in them. To rejoin Banjo and Kazooie, players only need to have one character run into the other one. However, the bear and bird can not leave a world or an Isle O’ Hags area while split up. The most significant advantage of the Split-up maneuver is that each character can learn their own set of techniques, which can be utilized in a wide range of scenarios. For instance, Banjo can still swim underwater, hang on edges and climb objects on his own, while he acquires multiple utility abilities. On the other hand, Kazooie retains her techniques to fire Eggs, fly, use the Shock Jump Spring, and footwear and she also learns new offensive techniques. Additionally, without Banjo’s weight, Kazooie is more agile and nimble. When the protagonists split up, they start with different maximum health points. Banjo starts with three health points, while Kazooie starts with only two health points. The amount of health points filled for each character is based on their total energy level when Banjo splits from Kazooie. In other words, when an energy bar upgrade is obtained by Honey Bee, the Queen Bee, Banjo and Kazooie will no longer start out at their maximum energy capacity when using the Split up pads. The Split-up maneuver is essential for completing certain challenges, such as unique switches that can only be pressed when a specific character stands on them. These often appear in pairs, and the player has to activate them simultaneously. Swap Clouds are often present, allowing players to switch between the characters with ease. It’s worth noting that the Swap Clouds are only visible when Banjo and Kazooie are split. In conclusion, the Split-up maneuver is an essential tool for navigating the world of Banjo-Tooie, allowing players to take advantage of the unique abilities of each character to access new sections in the game.
