Terry is an enormous pterodactyl who first appears in Banjo-Tooie as the boss of Terrydactyland residing at the peak of the mountain. Despite Terry’s intimidating appearance, he is a loving and devoted father who will go to great lengths to protect his offspring from any danger. When Banjo and Kazooie, the game’s protagonists, attempt to scale the mountain, Terry spots them from his nest and accuses them of stealing his precious small eggs. To deter them from approaching his domain, Terry expels copious amounts of green slime. When the protagonists reach his nest they deny any wrongdoing, but Terry remains unconvinced and engages them in combat. Once Terry has been defeated and fallen back into his own nest, Banjo and Kazooie attempt to assuage the grieving parent and offer to help recover his lost eggs. In gratitude, Terry gives them a Jiggy as a token of his trust, and activates a Flight Pad to assist them in their search. The eggs are located in four different places, while the first one is on a plateau in the lake, the second one inside Oogle Boogle’s cave, the third egg is located in a crevice inside Unga Bunga’s cave, and the last one is in an alcove within the mountain, where the Chompasaurus dwells. In order to return the eggs to Terry safely, Kazooie has to perform her Hatching ability to hatch them, while the last one, being too heavy, must be transported back to Terry’s nest by using Banjo’s Taxi Pack ability. Once all of Terry’s eggs have been safely returned, Terry rewards them with another Jiggy in recognition of their assistance, and demonstrates that even fiercest creatures can be won with kindness.
» Battle Procedure
After a heated conversation with Terry, in which he accuses Banjo and Kazooie of stealing all of his precious eggs, the pterodactyl takes to the air above his nest, and a battle begins. Employing a particularly potent tactic, he starts spitting out green slime at players from a distance. To avoid getting hit by the slime, players have to spin in a circle at a rapid pace, as the slime lands where they would usually be, rather than where they are standing currently. However, Terry’s tactic isn’t foolproof, and after a few seconds, he moves to a new position in the sky in order to gain a better vantage point. This gives the perfect opportunity for players to hit him and deal massive damage using eggs, while it’s advised to use Grenade Eggs or Ice Eggs, as they do the most damage. As the battle continues and his hit points begin to dwindle, he becomes increasingly ferocious and starts to summon several Mucoids onto the battlefield. These globs of mucus have a life of their own and will chase and attack players. Additionally, the number of Mucoids spawned is directly proportional to the amount of health points Terry has left in the battle. Furthermore, the hit box of these Mucoids are extremely small, so it’s recommended to perform Banjo’s Roll ability to defeat them quickly and safely without taking damage. Once Terry has been successfully defeated, he falls exhausted back into his nest. In an act of graciousness, he offers Banjo and Kazooie one of his coveted Jiggies as a token of his trust. Overall, this battle is a true test of Banjo and Kazooie’s skill and strategy, requiring quick reflexes and a steady hand to overcome Terry’s defenses.
