Trev the Tenteyecle is a formidable boss encountered in Moodymaze Marsh in Yooka-Laylee, the first game of the franchise. This imposing creature is characterized by its long tentacle covered with suction cups on the underside and a rough, bumpy texture on top, which features three big closed eyes, which players must target to defeat him. Also, confronting Trev is not possible from the beginning, as players must first expand the world, since he isn’t immediately available. Once players have entered the Grand Tome, they must venture to the Moodymaze Bunker, where they will find Trev the Tenteyecle. He will attack the protagonists after they interrupt his T.V. soaps by asking for a golden Pagie. Trev is a cunningly designed boss, whose name is a shortened form of the name Trevor, while Tenteyecle is a clever play-on-words derived from the words tentacle and eye. It references the eyes on Trev’s tentacles, which are key targets for players to inflict damage upon. However, he is a challenging enemy who requires players to use their skills and knowledge to emerge victorious. To defeat him, players must avoid his attacks, which include a smash and shock wave ability. Using Yooka and Laylee’s double jump technique to avoid damage is crucial to success. The smash attack stuns Trev, providing an opportunity for players to attack the eyes on his tentacle and inflict massive damage to him. Successfully defeating Trev the Tenteyecle is no small feat. However, players who emerge victorious will be rewarded with the Creep from the Deep achievement, one of the thirty-five achievements, along with a Pagie. This will mark players with a significant accomplishment, allowing them to continue exploring Moodymaze Marsh.
» Battle Procedure
At the beginning of the battle with Trev, players will need to stay alert to his first attack. He moves his tentacle back and forth on the ground, requiring players to utilize Yooka and Laylee’s double jump ability to avoid getting damage. Players then need to be aware as he smashes the ground creating a powerful shock wave around. Once again, they must time their jump to avoid getting damage. At the same time, this attack stuns Trev the Tenteyecle, creating an opening for players to attack the eyes on his tentacle. Furthermore, it’s important to note that the eyes have different levels of durability, with the smallest eye having one health point, the middle eye having two, and the largest eye having three. If the player fails to damage all of his eyes on the tentacle, Trev will repeat the previous attacks until they are all hit. As the battle progresses, he will drop a tentacle from the ceiling and follow Yooka and Laylee, before striking the ground to create another shock wave. Trev the Tenteyecle will repeat this action twice before opening a hatch sticking his big eye out to observe the protagonists. Players will need to quickly attack the eye three times, and then it will be drawn back in. In the next phase, Trev will flood the room and stick out his tentacle from below, while chasing after Yooka and Laylee. Players must once again avoid his attacks, before the first three phases are repeated. In the final phase, he combines some of the previous phases chasing the protagonists with a tentacle from both above and below, while the tentacle drooping from the ceiling still creates shock waves. He will once again stick out his big eye for the last time requiring players to hit it three times to finally defeat him. In conclusion, the battle against Trev is a challenging one, requiring players to have quick reflexes and a careful timing. Also, the stakes are high, but with proper planning and precise execution, players can emerge victorious.
