Weldar is a boss in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, first appearing in the game Banjo-Tooie. He is a welding torch with partial blindness who resides in the basement of Grunty Industries. As one of the most challenging bosses to reach, players must go through a lengthy procedure to open the gate that blocks the way to the Repair Depot, where he resides. When players encounter Weldar before the battle he appears to have trouble moving around as he drags himself out by using his head. However, during the fight, it becomes evident that he is quite agile and jumps around to try and defeat Banjo and Kazooie. Despite his massive appearance and unique abilities, Banjo and Kazooie defeat him in a challenging battle, leaving him mortally wounded. Even in his weakened state, he reminds the protagonists of the damage they have done to him and tells them he is in a lot of pain. In the sequel game Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Mumbo discovers a few discarded parts of Weldar’s body in the trash and decides to turn them into a compact flamethrower called Weldar’s Breath. This special part deals a substantial amount of damage by expelling a stream of fire, but it also consumes a lot of ammo. As one of the strongest weapons in the game, players can only obtain two of them. Interestingly, the colors of Weldar’s Breath does not match his real coloration from Banjo-Tooie. Instead of black and gold, it’s entirely red. However, players are able to paint the vehicle part black using the painting function in Mumbo’s Motors, making it resemble the original Weldar from Banjo-Tooie. As a significant character in the franchise, Weldar has left a lasting impression on Banjo-Kazooie fans, while his appearance and abilities are imposing.

» Weldar's Repair Depot

To find Weldar, players must navigate a labyrinthine set of steps to unlock the door to the Repair Depot, where he lurks in the depths of Grunty Industries. What makes the task particularly tricky is the fact that a switch on the second floor must be pressed to open the door, but pressing it on the ground will trigger a nearby door to open, revealing a magnet that will repel the protagonists from the switch, making it impossible to activate. To overcome this obstacle, the player must first take control of the pink shaman, Mumbo Jumbo, and use his EMP magic in order to temporarily disable the magnet by targeting the pad with his silhouette above it. This will trigger a short timer indicating how long the big magnet will remain inactive. With the clock ticking, players must then swiftly make their way back to Mumbo’s Skull to become Banjo and Kazooie and transform them into a Washing Machine by visiting Humba Wumba’s Wigwam. After the transformation, players can return to the room with the disabled magnet by taking the pipe on the left side. This will allow them to press the switch on the ground, unlocking the door to the Repair Depot. Once the door is unlocked, players can descend to the basement to confront Weldar in an epic battle. Despite his partial blindness and lumbering appearance, he is a fierce boss in Banjo-Tooie, capable of agile movements and deadly attacks. Players must use all their skills to overcome Weldar, dodging his attacks and utilizing their Grenade or Fire Eggs to inflict damage. In the end, the player emerges victorious, leaving him mortally wounded and lying helpless on the ground. Even in his weakened state, he still reminds players of the damage they have done to him and the pain he is in.

» Battle Procedure

To defeat Weldar players must overcome a series of challenging obstacles during the battle that culminates in an epic showdown. He starts the battle by hopping around the room in an attempt to flatten the protatgonists. After failing to succeed in this tactic, he’ll start shooting plasma balls at them while simultaneously attempting to suck them up, giving players an opportunity to inflict damage on him. During this brief window of opportunity, players have to use Grenade Eggs, Fire Eggs or Clockwork Eggs to fire into his mouth and cause an explosion inside him. As a result, he will spit out enemies, Nutta, Washup, and Boltoid, which will assist him during the battle and then repeat his actions. Also, it is essential to remain vigilant and avoid being sucked up by Weldar as the consequences could be dire. Once players have successfully landed three hits on Weldar, he will activate an emergency switch that activates wires between the squares on the floor, causing electricity to surge through them. This additional obstacle means that players have to be nimble and avoid stepping on the wires, while Weldar continues attacking them, or else they will receive damage. After causing six explosions inside Weldar he’ll detonate, causing his head to fly across the room. Simultaneously, Weldar’s head will hit the high voltage box, causing the giant fan in the Air Conditioning Plant to stop spinning. This will allow players to collect the golden Jiggy behind the fan and also the Cheato Page that is on a platform above the Repair Depot connected by a gray pipe. In summary, the fight against Weldar requires players to remain focused, nimble, and strategic in their use of various eggs to deal damage. The stakes are high, and the obstacles are challenging, but with determination and skill, players can emerge victorious against Weldar.
