Brrreeze Blok is the boss of Glitterglaze Glacier in Yooka-Laylee and Yooka-Replaylee. He has taken up residence inside Burnie, the living furnace responsible for heating the Icymetric Palace. The cold produced by this unwanted occupant prevents Burnie from lighting his fire, leaving the palace’s thermal vents inactive. Helping the furnace therefore leads to a boss encounter and also changes which parts of the palace can be explored afterwards. Brrreeze Blok is a large piece of living ice with a face, heavy eyebrows, purple-blue eyes and an open mouth from which he launches projectiles. In the original game, broad icy ridges frame that face like a mane and the block slides along the rear wall of Burnie’s interior. The remake gives the surrounding ice a more pronounced arrangement of translucent, projecting chunks. As he takes fire damage, his entire body becomes smaller and his movements become quicker. His name combines the cold shiver brr with breeze block, while his original introduction calls him Bookend in Burnie, echoing the film title Weekend at Bernie’s. His behaviour centres on keeping possession of the boiler. When the duo arrive, he demands to know who has entered his cramped lair and points out that it is occupied. Yooka tries to explain their presence by pretending that they are dentists checking Burnie’s molars. Brrreeze Blok recognises that they intend to thaw him and throw his puddle-like remains outside, and Laylee readily admits it. He then threatens to give them a frosty end before they can act. During the battle he complains about the melting and regrets buying the very Scorchberry bush being used against him. Frosty Fray, composed by Grant Kirkhope, accompanies the original encounter.
Reaching Burnie through the Original Icymetric Palace
The original boss is reached after expanding Glitterglaze Glacier for five Pagies at its Grand Tome in Hivory Towers. The expansion supplies the key that opens the upper Icymetric Palace. Return to the world and approach the long icy ramp near Dr. Puzz. Slurp honey from the nearby beehive to become sticky with Slurp State, then walk or roll up the slope to the palace entrance. Trowzer sells that move in Glitterglaze Glacier for forty Quills; a later visit with Flappy Flight also offers a way to reach the high entrance. Inside, take the right-hand route from the entrance room’s upper level. In the next chamber, the lift carries the duo to the higher doorway, avoiding the need to follow the narrow lower path beneath the falling spikes. Cross the upper walkway in the room of false Play Coins and continue to the timed hoop challenge. Press its switch and complete the indicated circuit to reveal a Bomberry plant, then use its projectiles to break the obstructing wall and open the route forward. The following rooms require alternating berry powers. Use the water source to extinguish the flames protecting the Scorchberries, take the fire power to melt the ice around a floor switch and press that switch to open the next gate. Renew the water power before crossing the moving platforms, putting out the fire on each platform before landing on it. Return to the source if the temporary power expires before the crossing is complete. Burnie waits in the room beyond and explains that something inside him is making him too cold to produce a flame. Agree to investigate and enter his open mouth to reach the arena. Slurp Shot, taught in Tribalstack Tropics for thirty Quills, supplies the basic berry-shooting ability used along this route and against the boss. Laylee’s later Sonar ’Splosion opens an additional combat option, but direct fire already provides a way to complete the encounter.
Melting the Ice with Direct Fire and Wall Torches
Brrreeze Blok moves from side to side along the back of the original arena, pausing to fire icy projectiles towards the duo. A Scorchberry plant stands at the opposite end of the room. Use Slurp Shot on it to obtain fire power, face the moving block and direct the flames into him while keeping clear of his return shots. Follow his movement far enough to maintain a useful angle, but leave space to turn away when he stops and opens his mouth. The moving platform in front of the plant can block incoming projectiles and gives cover while preparing another attack. Revisit the plant whenever the temporary fire effect runs out. There is also a method that keeps damaging him as he crosses the wall. Four recessed alcoves along his route contain unlit torches, initially protected by breakable covers. Laylee’s Sonar ’Splosion shatters those covers and exposes the torches. Trowzer teaches that stronger sound attack in Moodymaze Marsh for sixty Quills, so a player using this method must first obtain the move in the third world and return. Use the Scorchberries to light the exposed torches. Each lit flame damages Brrreeze Blok as he passes it, allowing the duo to concentrate on dodging while his own movement carries him through the heat. The torches eventually go out, so check which ones need relighting when another fire opportunity is available. Direct flame attacks and the torch method can also be used together. The visual change in his size shows the fight’s progress: the original large block gradually shrinks into a much smaller face, becoming faster as it melts. His ice attacks also grow from a simple shot into longer or wider volleys. Keep watching the next incoming pattern instead of continuing to aim at the place he occupied before his speed increased. This is a continuous melting encounter, with the same fire weakness remaining useful as his size and attack pressure change. Continue until the remaining ice has been depleted and the defeat conversation begins.
Defeat and Restoring the Palace Heating
At the end of the original encounter, Brrreeze Blok regrets leaving the boiler door unlocked and describes the defeat as the end of his forty-eight-hour reign of terror. His final request is that his family be told he went out doing what he loved: firing projectiles at an interspecies buddy-duo. The duo receive one Pagie and unlock the Knocking Down Walls achievement or trophy on supported versions. A rear passage also opens in the boss chamber, leading to a further platforming route over rotating pipes and another Pagie. Careful movement and Laylee’s glide help with the gaps and turning cylinders; Flappy Flight offers a later way to cross them. Return outside to Burnie, who thanks the visitors for putting a fire in his belly and explains that the palace’s floor grates can now provide heat. The vent in his own room lifts the duo towards the overhead ledge and its separate Pagie, so jump into the rising air and glide to take advantage of it. The restored system affects other palace rooms as well. In the main entrance chamber, a working thermal stream provides access to upper platforms and the Health Extender that increases the duo’s maximum health. Another room contains a Pagie frozen inside a movable ice block. Buddy Slam the floor panels to lower a continuous route from the block’s depression to the heating vent, then push the block along that route and onto the warm grate to melt it. Further working vents open paths towards the palace’s additional rooms, including the route to Tubbz and his hot-tub problem. These rewards require exploring the repaired heating system after collecting the boss prize. Burnie remains the friendly furnace whose operation has been restored, while the ice block was the occupant preventing him from doing his job.
Brrreeze Blocked in Yooka-Replaylee
Yooka-Replaylee returns to the furnace interior for the activity Brrreeze Blocked, reached through the remade Icymetric Palace. The world is available in its full layout, with a Mark fast-travel point near the palace entrance, so the original five-Pagie expansion and later purchase of the sound move do not form a separate preparation sequence. Continue through the palace’s rooms to Burnie and enter when he asks for help warming up. Inside, the revised Brrreeze Blok still moves along the wall and becomes smaller under sustained fire, but the opening attacks also leave large dark chunks with glowing centres on the floor. Dodge the incoming objects until the fire source is available, slurp its power and use the displayed Shoot action to breathe flames at the boss. Renew that power as further sources become available. Ice projectiles cross the floor between these opportunities, and small icy creatures add hazards at ground level later in the encounter. Keep a path open for moving away from them before stopping to aim. The covered wall alcoves and torch flames return as an additional way to apply heat, with Sonar ’Splosion available among the remake’s starting moves. Break the covers, light the torches and keep avoiding the incoming attacks while the moving boss crosses the burning recesses. A visible health bar tracks his remaining ice, while his progressively smaller model makes the change apparent in the arena itself. The defeat dialogue retains his complaints about the boiler door, short reign and final family message. Victory releases three Pagies together and restores Burnie’s heating, opening further palace routes. In the revised Precarious Pipes challenge beyond the boss, Buddy Slam all three buttons positioned on the rotating pipes to open its Cagie. Back outside Burnie, the active thermal stream also reaches a balcony containing three Quills. Other newly accessible paths lead towards Rextro’s arcade and the palace’s remaining challenges. A replay prompt offers to reset the boss after completion; its rematch is separate from obtaining the first three-Pagie reward. Knocking Down Walls belongs to the original game’s achievement list, while Replaylee uses its own replay and exploration objectives.
