I.N.E.P.T.

I.N.E.P.T. banner placeholder

I.N.E.P.T. is the security robot fought while riding Kartos in Capital Cashino, the fourth Grand Tome of Yooka-Laylee. The encounter returns in Yooka-Replaylee as I.N.E.P.T. Derailed. His original boss introduction describes him as a Sentient Short-sighted Supercomputer, a description reflected in both his camera-like appearance and the mistakes he makes during conversation. A long dark head carries green-lit lenses and sits above a heavy mechanical body with articulated legs and wheels. He patrols the circular rail surrounding the casino’s fountain and confronts the riders when Kartos tries to award a Pagie. According to his interpretation of the rules, only the handsome cashier may distribute that prize. The robot’s attempt to enforce the restriction immediately reveals his poor perception: he counts Yooka, Laylee and Kartos as six intruders, complains that the lighting is confusing his sensors and mishears a suggestion to log off as an insult. Kartos’s later boast that he is the track king produces another misunderstanding about the robot’s tracking. Those exchanges introduce increasingly dangerous weapons rather than persuading him to stop. Spiked mines, charging attacks and guided missiles form the successive stages of the fight, with the heroes remaining aboard the moving minecart throughout. Victory depends on the cart’s jump, forward gun, acceleration and brake instead of the duo’s ordinary ground attacks or the world’s helicopter transformation. His name is presented as initials and also reads as the word inept, fitting the gap between his authority and his competence. A much smaller camera-headed unit also appears in the pre-release Toybox and in a secret encounter near Galleon Galaxy’s pirate ship. That related appearance concerns unfinished exposition and, in the remake, an unlockable accessory; it is separate from the large casino boss and its rewards.

Kartos’s Gem Run and the Original Mine Attacks

In the original game, I.N.E.P.T. can be reached before Capital Cashino is expanded. Find Kartos on his raised platform above the casino floor, beside the upper route and the rail leading around the central fountain. Speak to him and accept the local minecart challenge. His requirement is one hundred and fifty gems, collected during the ride while avoiding gaps, enemies and other track hazards. Use the cart’s forward gun to clear obstacles and jump for raised gem trails, then judge whether a brake or a burst of speed will put the cart in the right place for the next landing. When Kartos prepares to hand over the prize, the security alert interrupts him and I.N.E.P.T. challenges the group’s right to receive it. The battle takes place on a circular section of rail, keeping the cart moving while the robot changes position around it. His first weapon is a series of spiked mines placed in the cart’s path. Some arrive alone, while others form closely spaced pairs or patterns that require more care than repeatedly tapping Jump. A forward shot can clear a mine, but the original gun needs time between shots. If a second obstacle is too close to fire again, jump it and use the brake to avoid landing on the next one. During this stage, watch the robot’s eyes as well as the track. Red warning flashes announce an approaching charge and provide an opportunity to shoot his face while he is ahead of the cart. Fire into that opening, then adjust speed to keep clear as the attack passes. The useful rhythm is to clear the immediate mine, prepare the gun for the warning and preserve room for the following jump. Concentrating only on landing hits can leave the cart trapped against an obstacle that was visible a moment earlier.

Charging Feints, Redirected Missiles and Defeat

After enough damage, I.N.E.P.T. orders the riders to move back and begins his second attack phase. He takes up a position within the circular route and rushes across the cart’s path from either direction. Look for the red-eye warning before committing to a jump. When the robot approaches from in front, the cart’s forward-facing gun can hit him before the riders jump over his low body. When he approaches from behind, jump to avoid him; the same gun does not turn around to shoot backwards. Keeping those two approach directions distinct prevents a missed shot from becoming a collision. His later charges also include a feint. Instead of immediately rushing after the first warning, he flashes, edges forward and delays the final commitment. Wait for the completed warning and actual approach rather than jumping as soon as the first red light appears. An early jump can leave the cart landing directly in his path. Further damage prompts Kartos’s track-king boast, which I.N.E.P.T. misinterprets before introducing missiles. For this final stage he follows behind the cart and launches projectiles ahead of it. They travel out in front, turn and come back along the route toward the riders. Time a jump over the returning missile so that it continues past the cart and strikes the pursuing robot. The damaging projectile is therefore his own weapon: firing the cart’s gun at an empty part of the track does not replace the jump that sends it into him. Later volleys add more to watch, making the spacing between returning missiles as important as the first leap. A brief brake or boost can help set up that spacing, but commit to the jump when the missile is close enough to pass beneath the cart. Repeat the redirection until the robot’s final defeat. He expresses disbelief at losing to what he calls a green badger and a purple dragon, then breaks down and leaves Kartos’s track clear. The original boss awards a Pagie and the Obsolete achievement or trophy. Its Pagie is separate from the earlier gem-run reward, and Kartos can subsequently offer his cleared track for another ride. This final stage resolves the security interruption; the ordinary casino activities and cashier exchanges remain available elsewhere.

I.N.E.P.T. Derailed in Yooka-Replaylee

The remake keeps the confrontation at the end of Capital Cashino’s first Kartos ride and presents it as I.N.E.P.T. Derailed. The riders still fight from the cart on the circular track, and the robot still progresses through mines and frontal attacks, charges from different directions and a missile finale. An important change is how the gun is loaded during the opening stage. I.N.E.P.T. sends plain cannonballs as well as dangerous spiked obstacles. Catch a plain cannonball to supply ammunition, then fire it back when his position offers a clear shot. Yooka visibly reaches out with his tongue to take the ball, and the Fire prompt reflects whether the cart has a shot ready. Do not treat a spiked mine as a collectible round or spend a loaded shot without considering the next opening. Jump over the damaging obstacles while lining up the catch and return shot. This changes the original gun’s timing problem into one of obtaining and using the ammunition the boss provides. The Switch 2 display labels Jump with A and Fire with Y; other platforms show their own corresponding inputs. As the encounter advances, continue distinguishing an attack coming from ahead from one overtaking the cart. The forward gun is useful when the robot is in front, while a jump is still needed to clear the charge itself. In the later missile stage, watch the projectile travel out and turn back, then jump so its return carries it into the robot behind the cart. The visible boss-health bar tracks progress across the encounter, while the riders’ hearts track the damage they can survive. Neither should be confused with the normal duo’s move-energy meter. Defeating the remade boss awards three Pagies, distinct from the ride’s gem-medal objectives. Kartos’s following conversation confirms that the security problem has been removed and the track is clear. The original Obsolete achievement is part of the 2017 game’s list; the remake instead includes its own achievements, among them a different I.N.E.P.T.-related secret outside Capital Cashino.

The Toybox Robot and the Original Galleon Galaxy Secret

Before the full game’s release, a small I.N.E.P.T. model appeared in the Toybox, the standalone sandbox made for players to try Yooka and Laylee’s movement. Its robot and hidden-button secret provided an extra task beyond exploring the demonstration area and gathering its one hundred Quills. Completing that secret supplied a clue to look around a pirate ship in the finished game. The resulting encounter is in Galleon Galaxy rather than Capital Cashino and uses a small camera-headed robot with a compact upright body and glowing green lenses. In the original expanded world, search the small island near the large docked pirate ship for a rock beneath a tree. Break the rock with Buddy Slam to trigger the secret, after which a UFO delivers the little unit to the ship. Reach the deck as the ordinary duo and speak to it. Instead of attacking, it reports that it is loading exposition, with later attempts still failing to produce the explanation the visitors expect. The small robot can therefore be discovered and addressed without starting another casino-style boss fight. There is no second Obsolete reward or extra boss Pagie attached to waiting for the promised speech. The secret follows through on the pre-release clue, while its stalled dialogue makes the anticipated revelation another joke. Its camera head and name connect it with the casino security robot, but the encounter does not explain that the defeated giant has been repaired or moved to the ship. The two appearances have different sizes, locations and functions: one interrupts Kartos and attacks the cart, while the other rewards exploration with an unfinished conversation. The remake returns to this smaller unit and changes what happens after the discovery, giving the player a concrete shop unlock alongside the deliberately disappointing secret.

The Remade Prototype and I.N.E.P.T Vision

Yooka-Replaylee moves the prototype’s discovery to a suspended crate at the bow of Galleon Galaxy’s large pirate ship. Use the local flight power to reach the vessel, work out along its projecting front beam and Buddy Slam at the chain holding the crate. The released unit can then be found on the small shore beside the hull. Finding this prototype is the objective of Fully Loaded, which is separate from beating the large robot in Capital Cashino. One successful route is to finish Planette’s ship battle before returning to explore the pirate ship and releasing the crate. Speak to the little robot on the shore and continue its conversation when its loading has completed. Its new reward message announces that Ineptvision.inept has finished rendering and tells the duo to interface with Vendi to claim an accessory. Yooka had hoped for an incredible secret; the robot instead offers a remark about Vendi disappearing between one and three in the morning. The conversation also retains the joke that the expected exposition never properly arrived. Follow the new-stock notification to Vendi’s Emporium and open the cosmetics offered for Laylee. The unlocked item is I.N.E.P.T Vision, priced at two hundred and fifty Q.U.I.D.S. Its dark camera-like goggles give Laylee the little robot’s green-lensed appearance, and the associated vision effect turns the view into a monochrome surveillance-style image with a green aiming marker. Although the robot’s dialogue calls the accessory complimentary, unlocking its stock entry does not pay the shop price. Buy it from Vendi to equip it, and use the normal cosmetic controls when a different look is wanted. The item is also included in the cosmetics and outfits guide alongside the remake’s other unlocks.
