Madame Grunty is the fortune teller heard inside the moon-and-star-covered tent in Witchyworld in Banjo-Tooie. Entering the attraction produces a randomly chosen outcome, ranging from ammunition and feathers to restored health or a beating. Her rarest fortune reveals GETJIGGY, a cheat that makes the world-hint signs in Jiggywiggy’s Temple readable. The camera never follows Banjo and Kazooie inside, so the fortune teller is presented through her dialogue, voice and Gruntilda’s portrait rather than an exposed character model. The booth can be revisited throughout the adventure, although its occasional closures and willingness to injure customers make repeated visits less straightforward than simply collecting a free prize.
The Fortune-Telling Tent
The attraction occupies a corner of the circular route around Witchyworld’s Big Top. Its small pink-purple tent is decorated with yellow stars and crescent moons, with a dark doorway beneath the hanging fabric and an information sign alongside it. This distinguishes it from the much larger blue-and-white Big Top where Conga controls admission. Madame Grunty’s own sign invites visitors to have their fortune told while acknowledging that they may dislike the result. The advertisement is unusually honest by the park’s standards: entering can cost health as easily as it can replenish supplies. There is also a reminder about fortune telling on the sign associated with Gobi’s cage in the Cave of Horrors, connecting the side attraction with another part of the park.
Who Is Madame Grunty?
The fortune teller shares Gruntilda’s name, speaking voice and dialogue portrait, suggesting that the witch is responsible for the attraction. The scene does not show a body inside the tent or provide a separate explanation of who operates it. Its continued availability after Gruntilda has been defeated also leaves that apparent connection unexplained. Her behaviour mixes occasional assistance with open malice: she welcomes visitors before choosing their fate, distributes useful supplies on some visits and is especially pleased when she chooses violence. The presentation therefore preserves the joke of receiving help from a Grunty-branded business without establishing a separate biography, disguise sequence or family relationship for the unseen presenter.
Entering and Receiving a Fortune
Once Witchyworld has been opened with eight Jiggies and its corresponding Jiggywiggy challenge, the duo can walk into the open tent from the central park route. No Big Top tickets or Van payment are needed for this attraction. Banjo disappears through the entrance while the camera remains outside, and Madame Grunty greets him before selecting an outcome. The result is announced automatically rather than chosen from a menu. Banjo then emerges, with supplies or health adjusted according to the fortune. While the doorway remains open, it is possible to enter again immediately. Each visit makes another selection, so a helpful result does not mean that the following visit will also be safe.
Eggs, Feathers and Health
The supply fortunes award twenty ordinary Blue Eggs, five Fire Eggs, five Grenade Eggs, ten Red Feathers or five Gold Feathers. A separate health fortune refills the energy bar. These are replenishments within the normal inventory limits, so arriving with a full supply reduces the usefulness of the corresponding gift. Ice Eggs and Clockwork Kazooie Eggs are not among the tent’s ammunition prizes. There is also no direct Jiggy, Cheato Page or permanent health-container reward. This makes the booth a possible source of replacement resources while exploring Witchyworld, rather than a substitute for the park’s collectible challenges or Honey B’s health upgrades. The useful items are balanced against the possibility that the next fortune will remove health instead.
Fortune Odds and Repeated Attempts
The documented outcome distribution gives the secret cheat a 1% chance, a beating a 33% chance and each of the six useful supply or health outcomes an 11% chance. That makes the cheat much rarer than any individual refill and the beating the most common single result. These figures describe the selection on a visit, not a fixed sequence of fortunes. A player might receive the code early or spend a long time alternating between supplies, injuries and temporary closures. Completing a particular number of visits does not guarantee the code, and a run of beatings does not indicate that another park task must be finished first. Keep enough health to survive another unsuccessful attempt when returning to the doorway.
Beatings and the Fatal Ejection
The unfavourable fortune removes one honeycomb of health. Madame Grunty announces it with particular enthusiasm, sounds of Banjo being hurt come from inside the unseen tent, and he is thrown back through the doorway. If the damage exhausts his remaining health, the ejection ends with him failing to get back up, turning the attraction’s usual exit into a death animation. The sequence reuses familiar audio from Banjo-Kazooie, including Banjo’s pain sounds and Gruntilda’s laugh from the earlier confrontation. Since every new visit can produce this outcome, a previous energy refill offers no protection against a later beating. Recover health before continuing if Banjo is down to his last honeycomb.
Temporary Refurbishment
After a visit, the tent has a 25% chance of closing temporarily. Madame Grunty announces a refurbishment and the entrance shuts, preventing another immediate fortune. The closure lasts one minute, after which she announces that the tent has reopened while the player is still in Witchyworld. This is a timed interruption to the attraction, not a request to repair machinery, pay the Van or collect tickets. The player can use the interval to explore the nearby park and return when the doorway is available again. Reopening restores the same random selection of fortunes, with no promised improvement in the next result.
Receiving and Activating GETJIGGY
The rare fortune reveals the code GETJIGGY and tells the duo to activate it in the usual way. Return to the Code Chamber in Mayahem Temple, inside the building beneath Ssslumber in Jade Snake Grove. Its entrance can be broken open with Mumbo’s Golden Goliath or, once available, Grenade Eggs. Stand on the central podium and use Egg Aim to shoot the wall letters in the order G-E-T-J-I-G-G-Y. Leave aiming mode and interact with the cheat wall to enable code 6. Receiving the fortune alone does not make the temple signs readable before this activation. Players who wish to bypass the random acquisition can instead enter CHEATOYGGIJTEG, combining CHEATO with GETJIGGY backwards, in the same chamber.
The Eight Jiggy Hint Signs
With the cheat enabled, visit Master Jiggywiggy in Wooded Hollow on the Isle O’ Hags. The eight signs around his temple’s main room now provide clues to the Jiggies in the eight principal worlds. Before activation, they refer to the prospect of fortune revealing those secrets, pointing back towards Madame Grunty’s attraction. Their information helps identify objectives and locations; the player must still travel to the worlds and complete the tasks to collect the Jiggies. These are the main-room world signs, distinct from the small group of additional hints reached behind the curtain at the rear of the temple. GETJIGGY does not open every world or award the required Jiggies for Jiggywiggy’s challenges.
Xbox Jiggy Tips and Quiz References
The Xbox release retains Madame Grunty’s attraction but also supplies a Jiggy Tips option through the pause-menu interface. That gives players another way to consult objective hints, reducing the practical need to obtain the rare fortune before looking for help. The Nintendo 64 encounter, including its presentation in Nintendo Switch Online, still leads players towards the code and temple signs. Madame Grunty also appears in the game’s quiz material: Tower of Tragedy asks what happens inside her tent, with fortune telling as the answer, while a picture question identifies her as the presenter associated with the booth. Another visual clue asks how many moons appear on the pictured tent, with three as the accepted answer. Those questions make both the attraction’s purpose and its exterior decoration worth remembering.
