Rextro Bytes Back is the eight-course arcade adventure found in Yooka-Replaylee. Instead of playing the earlier collection of races and score challenges, you control Rextro himself through small isometric worlds. His extending chomp attack defeats Megabyte enemies, breaks obstacles, operates puzzles and grabs bright pink ledges so that he can climb without jumping. Five courses belong to the Grand Tomes and three more are found in the Hivory Towers arcade. Each contains two optional medals to discover and a third for reaching the goal, with one Pagie awarded per medal. Collecting all 24 medals therefore supplies 24 Pagies as well as the Chompian Collector achievement. Rextro presents the game as his own heroic story about overcoming hostile artificial intelligence, with Yooka and Laylee collecting the rewards outside the machine. The original collection has its own Rextro’s Arcade guide.
Finding and Replaying the Cabinets
The five Grand Tomes each contain Rextro beside a large cabinet and a nearby Play Coin puzzle. Collect that world’s coin, speak to him and interact with the machine to begin its course. In Hivory Towers, follow the neon arrows into the arcade room on the route towards the second Pagie Door; this area becomes accessible after opening the first door. Its three additional courses do not require another world coin. The hub also provides access to the five world courses after they have been unlocked at their own machines, making it convenient for returning to a missed medal. Opening the arcade room alone does not activate all five Grand Tome games.
Chomping, Climbing and Looking Around
Rextro can walk and use the Chomp action, but he cannot jump. Face the target before extending his head, then use the bite to break blocks, attack enemies or catch the highlighted pink edge of a platform. The marked ledges are climb points rather than scenery; a gap that seems impossible on foot often has a pink edge within reach. A slight turn of the camera helps reveal routes hidden by the isometric view, especially on the far side of walls and pillars. Keep enough room to recover after a chomp, since its animation can leave Rextro exposed to a moving enemy or projectile. Ordinary movement, careful positioning and the displayed Chomp input are the tools for every course, without Yooka’s roll, glide or double jump.
Medals and Pagie Accounting
Find the two optional medals before stepping onto a course’s purple goal platform, then finish to receive its completion medal. The result screen shows which of the three rewards have been earned. Search side branches and breakable rocks rather than assuming that following the coin trail to the end clears everything. Bronze, silver and gold on the outside reward list refer to the three Pagie slots; there is no requirement to beat a hidden score or finish within a time threshold. The five world courses supply fifteen Pagies, while the three Hivory Towers courses supply another nine. Ordinary shiny coins are separate from the medals and Play Coins, and Rextro allows further play for fun and coins once the course’s Pagie rewards are exhausted.
Tribalstack Tropics: Coin and Jawsome Jungle
Find the cabinet beside the aqueduct and descend into the trench beneath it. A side chamber in the wall contains the Play Coin; collect it, return above and speak to Rextro. Jawsome Jungle introduces the narrow grassy paths, breakable walls and pink climbing edges. Chomp the blocks to open the route and clear approaching Megabytes before entering a confined passage. Several small side alcoves contain dark breakable rocks, so inspect them instead of leaving each junction immediately. They are important to finding the optional medals. Later, move around the paired enemies and successive barriers, then use the pink edge to reach the final raised island. Check for both exploration medals before crossing onto its goal platform.
Glitterglaze Glacier: Coin and Snipline Sands
Inside the Icymetric Palace, find Rextro’s room and enter the small chamber behind it. Search the right-hand side for the Play Coin among the other shiny coins, then bring it back to the cabinet. His course is Snipline Sands, a desert puzzle despite being accessed from the ice world. Chomp the pink-topped posts to travel between platforms and use them to negotiate the long crossings. Watch the sweep of the spiked bars before committing to a transfer, and clear the purple Megabytes from the landing area. Side platforms and dark rock obstacles require detours for the two optional medals. Follow the later chain of posts around the tall wall to the goal after checking those branches.
Moodymaze Marsh: Coin and Pushy Palms
Search the water near Dr. Puzz and the tube entrances beside Rextro’s part of the marsh. The Play Coin is inside the crate in this pool, a different location from the original game’s tree route. Break it, bring the coin to Rextro and enter Pushy Palms. Chomp the yellow key blocks onto the numbered floor pads to lower the matching barriers. The blue blocks also form routes between the grassy islands, so look at how they bridge the next gap before moving past them. Check the side ledges and breakable rocks for the optional medals before committing to the next puzzle area. Later, position the keys while avoiding the red projectiles from the stationary launchers, then use the cleared path to reach the final platform.
Capital Cashino: Coin and Slowflow Tableau
Use the three-window slot machine beside Rextro to obtain this Play Coin. Pull its lever with Yooka’s tongue, then Buddy Slam the three floor buttons to stop each reel on the Yooka-and-Laylee portrait. Deliver the prize to open Slowflow Tableau. Here the route crosses yellow platforms suspended between stone islands, with moving spiked formations and turrets making the crossings dangerous. Wait for a safe alignment, step onto the platform and use its pink ledge when the next section needs a chomp transfer. Investigate the stone ledges beside the main moving-platform corridors and break the dark obstacles hiding medal detours. Keep room for the platform to carry Rextro past a hazard rather than chasing it towards an edge, and confirm both optional medals before the final goal.
Galleon Galaxy: Coin and Grrr-apple Glacier
From Dr. Puzz’s platform, take the temporary flight power-up and head towards the northwest island marked like a skull and crossbones on the map. Use Sonar Shot on the balloon suspending a chest above the island. The falling chest reveals the Play Coin, and Rextro’s machine is nearby. Grrr-apple Glacier takes place among icy terraces and black platforms edged in pink. Use the chomp to pull Rextro onto those platforms and climb the stepped route, waiting when a moving section is not aligned. The optional medals require checking the side platforms and rock-filled branches instead of following only the central snow path. Clear purple enemies from narrow landings and watch the rotating spike patrols near the later crossings before climbing to the goal.
Hivory Towers: Dino-Soar Desert
Dino-Soar Desert is one of the three extra hub courses. It builds on Snipline Sands with longer chains of pink-topped posts, separated platforms and more hazardous landing areas. Turn towards the next post before chomping so the intended connection is clear, and look for a safe landing beyond each transfer. The route also involves blue blocks and dark breakable barriers, with side platforms holding the optional medals. When a direct line seems blocked, trace the posts around the outside of the structure rather than trying to jump the gap. Near the tall wall, follow the chain around its edge and check the lower side area before continuing to the last island and its purple finish platform.
Hivory Towers: Hot-Hop Hike
Hot-Hop Hike returns to the moving-platform setting with denser groups of spiked enemies and repeated crossings over the void. Pause on the stone islands to judge the movement of the yellow platforms and the rotating hazards before boarding. Chomp the pink ledges when the receiving platform lines up, keeping Rextro away from the spikes carried alongside the route. The broad islands also have breakable obstacles and side branches that should be checked for the optional medals. A later side-route switch changes the available passage, so inspect the route around that island before heading straight for the exit. The final platform still needs a careful transfer even after both exploration medals have been found; reaching the goal awards the third.
Hivory Towers: Bite ’n Switch Blizzard
Bite ’n Switch Blizzard combines the icy climbing layout with switches that change the barriers along the route. Chomp a floor switch, observe which blocks have changed and then follow the newly available path. Keep track of the way back before leaving a branch, because the same switch can change more than the gap immediately in front of Rextro. The two optional medals require exploring the side islands and breaking rock barriers, with purple enemies and rotating spike patrols complicating the narrow passages. Use the slight camera adjustment to inspect the far side of a raised wall when the next pink ledge is obscured. Once the side routes are complete, set the final barrier state, line up the last chomp transfers and reach the raised goal.

The Broken Cabinet and Other Arcade Rewards
The Hivory Towers room also contains a cabinet with a cracked screen and a Pagie inside. Smash the screen to collect that exploration reward. It is separate from the three hub courses and does not supply an extra medal for Chompian Collector. Likewise, coins gathered while controlling Rextro are not an additional type of medal, and the five world Play Coins are the keys to the machines rather than their completion prizes. If a world’s reward list still shows a Rextro Pagie missing, return to that course and check the medal results instead of looking for another Play Coin. The hub’s three courses must also be completed for the full medal collection, even after all five Grand Tome cabinets have been cleared.
Achievements and Returning for Missing Medals
Insert Coin records finding a Play Coin. Taking a Byte requires all three medals in one Rextro Bytes Back course, while Chompian Collector requires all 24 across the full set of eight. A finish with one optional medal missing can still award a Pagie, but it does not satisfy that course’s complete-medal requirement. Use the result screen and the hub cabinets to identify unfinished courses, then revisit their side routes before entering the goal again. These challenges remain available after finishing the main story. For the rest of the trophy and Xbox objectives, see the Yooka-Replaylee achievement guide. The arcade awards Pagies rather than a separate, automatically granted outfit; clothing has its own cosmetics and outfits guide.
How This Differs from the Original Arcade
The original Rextro’s Arcade in Yooka-Laylee has five world-machine challenges with completion and high-score Pagies, plus three additional games in the collection. Replaylee replaces that system with eight single-player Rextro courses and medal collection, raising the direct arcade reward from ten world Pagies to twenty-four across the worlds and hub. Its Play Coins also need the remake’s routes: the Moodymaze water crate and Galleon Galaxy balloon chest are especially easy to miss when following an older walkthrough. The official name Rextro Bytes Back applies to the new adventure, while Rextro’s Arcade remains the room that houses its hub machines.
