Boris

Boris banner placeholder

Boris is a Flying Meanyion introduced during the opening tutorial of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Capital B singles him out as a favourite employee, but his attempt to stop Yooka and Laylee ends almost immediately. Boris is hovering behind a spiked door when the heroes arrive, leaving him directly in its path as they force it open. His employer’s protest at the sudden defeat supplies one of the opening sequence’s jokes. Boris has the green body, magenta face, large blue eyes and pointed ears of a Flying Meanyion. Two teeth project from his lower jaw, and a jetpack keeps him aloft. He remains hovering in place at his tutorial position. Capital B’s introduction gives this particular henchman a name and marks him as an employee the villain values. His appearance otherwise follows the same enemy type encountered elsewhere in the game.

The Spiked Door and the Prologue

The early tutorial leads Yooka and Laylee over platforms, up nets and across gaps using swinging ropes. After the falling crates and another rope crossing, the route introduces doors opened with a rolling attack. Continue through the first doorway, rolling into the enemies and crates beyond it and climbing the next ledges. Boris is positioned behind the second spiked door along this route. Capital B interrupts the approach with dialogue before the heroes can continue. This places the encounter early in the opening escape, while the game is still teaching movement and attacks. When Capital B finishes speaking, use the same rolling attack that opened the earlier door. The door swings into Boris on its spiked side and defeats him, clearing the route. Capital B reacts by protesting that the heroes have bashed his named henchman. The scene makes the door itself the means of dealing with the ambush, using the movement technique just introduced to the player. Keep moving through the opening once it is clear; the path continues through more enemies, crates and platform jumps. Beyond Boris’s doorway, the tutorial continues until Yooka and Laylee meet Queen Phoebee. Her Beettalion protection lets them pass the next dangerous stretch before they face Capital B himself. Boris’s encounter sits before those later introductions, serving as an early comic interruption to the platforming lesson. The sequence then leads into the game’s larger struggle to free the Royal Stingdom.
