Plant Bulbs

Plant Bulbs banner placeholder

Plant Bulbs are the talking plants scattered around Tribalstack Tropics in Yooka-Laylee. Their rounded purple and pink flower heads sit above green leaves and short stalks, with eyes giving the larger plants an expressive face. Smaller bulbs begin as low buds and become much taller when the duo help them grow. The group's conversations become available through Dr. Puzz and her Flower Form transformation, which lets Yooka and Laylee participate in the plants' social life as a walking flower. To unlock it, collect the world's Mollycool from the pillar reached by the moving platforms above Duke's Temple, then bring it to the scientist beside her D.N.Ray. The original route uses Sonar Shot to wake the sleeping totem and reach the upper temple. Once transformed, cross the little bridge near the machine to find the large Plant Bulb calling from the garden at the foot of Nimbo's Mountain. She greets the newcomer flirtatiously and asks for help growing her six nearby sisters, promising a romantic gift in return. Use the flower's spray on each small bulb until it grows. The six occupy ground-level recesses and raised planters around the same garden, including the bowl beside the quest giver, the space behind fallen stonework and corners against the surrounding walls. Checking the edges as well as the elevated bowls avoids overlooking a sister hidden by the garden's rocks or changes in height. The spray reaches targets above the flower's immediate standing level, so use the available slopes and clear lines of sight to work around the patch. The full set is required before the leader supplies the promised Pagie. The grown sisters remain visible, making their changed size a useful record of progress. This task is available before expanding the Grand Tome.

Hidden Secrets and Return Conversations

Other Plant Bulbs around the temple, river and jungle provide four different hints when approached in Flower Form. They address the transformed visitor as an attractive fellow plant and discuss the lizard and bat as though those two are elsewhere, allowing the duo to hear information that is withheld from their ordinary appearance. One directs attention to a ghost near the hungry pig in the jungle, pointing towards the area occupied by Sir Scoffsalot. Another passes on a rumour about a ghost hidden beneath the entrance to the world and credits a grapevine as the source, turning the familiar expression into another living plant. The remaining two discuss rewards on Tribalstack Monument after the world has been expanded. One mentions the Butterfly Extender partway up the structure, while the other describes the Power Extender at its top and warns that the trigger revealing the secret is well hidden. These conversations give the transformation a purpose beyond the six-sister task: it opens a small network of informants whose clues concern the larger world's hidden rewards. The plants also have responses to being sprayed and revisited. A little bulb approached before the proper moment objects that the attention is premature, adding a conversational reaction to the use of the spray. A mature plant can say that its season is over and suggest coming back next year, while a later greeting remarks on the blooming weather. The quest giver's own thanks retain the romantic joke but also draw a limit, explaining that the newcomer may be her sisters' type while she does not favour plants with googly eyes. Before completion, a reminder points back to the spray and the sisters who still need help. These exchanges distinguish the plants' changing circumstances from the fixed secret hints, with growth producing new reactions as well as the Pagie. Their personalities are carried by courtship, gossip and gardening language, rather than individual personal names.

Wildflowers in Yooka-Replaylee

Yooka-Replaylee brings the conversational plants back as Wildflowers and revises their growth activity into Flower Shower. Dr. Puzz still needs the world's Mollycool before the duo can use the D.N.Ray, but the remake places it inside the ship's wheel on the elevated pillar. Reach the pillar and strike the wheel to release the item, then take it to the scientist beside the river. Flower Form retains the ability to spray and communicate with the local plants. The challenge giver now calls attention to friends who are so hot that they cannot keep still and asks the transformed visitor to cool them down. Her small companions move around a sandy stone enclosure instead of waiting in the original garden's separate corners and bowls. Enter the enclosure and keep the spray trained on the moving bulbs until each has grown into a large stationary plant. Turning to follow the remaining small targets matters more here than retracing the original six hiding places. The differently sized plants make it possible to distinguish those that have already received enough attention from those still running around. Completing the set releases the Flower Shower Pagie, while a later conversation thanks the visitor for helping the sisters and keeps the joke about their romantic preferences and the flower form's googly eyes. The surrounding Wildflowers also retain their role as informants, with some advice changed for the remake's altered collectible layout. A conversation now mentions the secret Pirate Treasure found in each world and wonders about the reward for collecting the set. Another reports that the dinosaur dropped something shiny in a cave off the riverbed, directing attention towards Rextro's lost arcade item. The original entrance-ghost and hungry-pig hints remain among the group's conversations. After the growth challenge, the remake also offers a reset through the speaking plant, allowing the activity to be played again with additional Q.U.I.D.S. The first gold Pagie therefore sits alongside a repeatable version of the activity, while the plants continue to supply conversation after their immediate request has been satisfied.
