Spaceship Form is the D.N.Ray transformation in Galleon Galaxy, the fifth Grand Tome of Yooka-Laylee. Despite its name, the vehicle resembles a small pirate galleon and sails across the world’s star-filled sea. Yooka supplies the green bow, hull and stern, with his eyes incorporated into the wheel. Six glowing portholes run along the sides, an orange keel sits beneath the hull and a lantern hangs from the rear. Laylee’s purple features become the mast, sails and crow’s nest above the deck. Three weapons give the ship its range of uses: an ice shot, a flamethrower and explosive cannonballs. Fire melts the blue ice-covered meteorites, cannonballs shatter the orange molten-looking rocks and ice shots activate the snowflake switches on the surrounding barriers. These functions make the form useful for opening waterways, exposing collectibles and fighting the world’s boss, Planette. The movement control steers the vessel, while the usual Jump action becomes Boost. The other displayed inputs operate the three weapons independently, allowing a quick change of attack when a different material blocks the route. The ship can cross the hazardous sea safely, where the ordinary duo take damage, but its sailing and weapons replace their normal platforming moves. A task requiring Sonar Shield, Buddy Slam or flight therefore calls for a change back after the relevant obstruction has been cleared. Dr. Puzz provides the form once her local machine has been powered with the Mollycool, and the D.N.Ray can be used repeatedly. The transformation also returns in Yooka-Replaylee, with revised shoreline challenges, additional ice-hidden Ghost Writers and a different race course. Its appearance should be distinguished from the much larger pirate ship permanently docked in the level, which contains the Captain’s Cabin and its own ordinary-duo activities.
The Lighthouse, Dr. Puzz and the Mollycool
The original Galleon Galaxy transformation has a prerequisite beyond simply finding its Mollycool. Dr. Puzz initially waits offshore and needs the lighthouse to guide her back to land. Begin on the island with Trowzer and Vendi, across the water from the Grand Tome entrance. Trowzer sells Sonar Shield here for one hundred Quills. This protects the normal duo while rolling through damaging barriers, although it consumes their power meter, so allow time to refill between long stretches. Follow the sloped path up toward Lightspeed House and pass its energy fences when they switch off, or cross them with the shield active. Inside the lighthouse, ascend through the passages and timed barriers to the switch at the top. Buddy Slam it to activate the light, earn the lighthouse’s Pagie and bring Puzz back to her D.N.Ray on the dock below. The activation also draws attention to the Mollycool above the searchlight. Use Flappy Flight to reach the top of the rotating light and collect it. That flight ability comes from Trowzer’s free Hivory Towers lessons before the world is entered; it is the normal duo’s move, rather than an ability unlocked by the Spaceship. Return to the dock beside the Trowzer-and-Vendi island, speak to Puzz and hand over the crystal. Stand on the D.N.Ray platform and use Interact to become the ship. Puzz’s tutorial explains steering, Boost and the three weapons, which can immediately be practised on the rocks enclosing this part of the shore. The form is available before the Grand Tome is expanded. The lighthouse reward and the Mollycool are separate pickups: activating the light helps Puzz reach land, while delivering the crystal powers her machine. Once that has been done, another Mollycool is not needed for later visits. Return to the platform and interact when the ordinary duo’s moves are required for one of the routes the ship opens.
Opening the Dock, Crane Game and Cosmic Cavern
The rocks and barrier in front of the original D.N.Ray form a short lesson in matching weapons to obstacles. Break the orange meteorites with cannonballs and melt the blue ones with fire, then use the ice shot on the snowflake switch to lower the gate to the open sea. Several rocks also conceal Quills, so inspect the spaces they leave instead of sailing straight past. Ahead is Crane Island, where a Pagie is suspended from a large red crane. Clear the meteorites around the outer approach and move along the right side. An orange rock on the crane conceals an ice switch; expose it, then fire an ice shot to lower the barrier around the inner channel. Sail into that channel and destroy the rocks obstructing the crane, including the blue one inside its structure. This reveals another ice switch. Circle back to the front so the cannon has a clear line to it, shoot the switch and collect the released Pagie. The same clearing trip exposes ordinary-duo routes elsewhere. Destroy the orange meteorite behind the Grand Tome entrance to uncover Quills on land, and break the rocks around the back of the lighthouse island to reveal the doorway into Cosmic Cavern. After returning to the D.N.Ray, enter that doorway as Yooka and Laylee. The cavern contains a rising red laser grid, enemy rooms and a rotating cylinder with openings that must be lined up with the adjoining tunnels. Use Sonar Shield through the active lasers, refill its energy when safe and continue to the final Buddy Slam switch. Pressing it shuts down the laser fences and releases the cavern’s Pagie. Before leaving, return to the cylinder and use Flappy Flight to reach the Power Extender on its central axle. The ship’s contribution is opening the entrance; the shield, ground-pound switch and flight to the axle belong to the duo’s normal form. Likewise, the blue Ghost Writer on Crane Island’s roof needs a normal-form visit and Sonar Shot, even though the surrounding rocks were cleared with the ship.
The Torn Pagie, Sea Ghost and Nimble’s Race
Expanding Galleon Galaxy for fifteen Pagies opens further uses for the original ship. On the dock running around the lighthouse island, melt the ice surrounding a torn Pagie. It can be uncovered earlier, but its fragment-recovery task belongs to the expanded world. Speak to it as the ordinary duo and find its three missing fragments inside treasure chests suspended from balloons. The chests are above the Skull Island area, beside the docked pirate ship and near the robot island’s star-fishing area. Use Flappy Flight to reach each balloon cluster and Sonar Shot to burst the balloons, then collect the fragment from the fallen chest. Return all three to complete the Pagie. This combines the ship’s thawing ability with a separate aerial collection route; the vessel itself cannot fly to the chests. Another expanded-world collectible is the green Ghost Writer hidden among blue meteorites in the sea to the right of the transformation dock, near the spherical building. Melt its cover, then chase it across the water and touch it with the ship. It is the fleeing green ghost, so feeding it a projectile is unnecessary. Capturing it contributes to the original world’s set of five Ghost Writers, which awards one shared Pagie once the set is complete. Nimble also waits on the water near the lighthouse and offers a ship race. Speak to the cloud while transformed, accept the challenge and sail through every red-and-white hoop before reaching the finish ahead of her. The course is one long lap, with arrows indicating the next turn and meteorites obstructing parts of the route. Keep Boost active along clear stretches, but prepare to fire cannonballs at orange rocks, melt blue ones and use an ice shot when a snowflake switch blocks the next passage. Missing a hoop or spending too long selecting the wrong weapon can cost more time than taking a controlled turn. Winning gives another Pagie, separate from the fragment quest and Ghost Writer reward.
Fighting Planette with the Three Weapons
Planette’s original encounter is reached in the expanded world by sailing behind the docked pirate ship and clearing the meteorites around a small floating moon. The moon is Moonie, who asks for help with an itch on his back. Sail around him and fire at the requested spot to trigger Planette’s appearance. The battle takes place in ship form and uses all three weapons. Her surface is divided into stone, ice and magma sectors, each carrying glowing craters that fire at the player. Use explosive cannonballs on the stone craters, fire on the icy ones and ice shots on the magma-covered ones. Matching the attack to the exposed sector matters more than firing every weapon at once. The first sequence presents two craters on each side. Clear them, then keep sailing to avoid the fiery debris launched from above while Planette temporarily submerges. When the sectors return, each has four craters and the projectile patterns are denser. Close positioning can help against the limited sideways reach of the stone and ice shots, while the magma sector’s flame streams require room to stay between or outside them. Continue watching for the falling projectiles introduced by the earlier barrage. After the surface weapons are destroyed, Planette exposes her face and sends large rocks across the arena. Steer diagonally through the gaps to approach, wait for the volley to stop and fire cannonballs into her face. Withdraw and repeat the approach until the final hits end the battle. Victory awards one Pagie and the Planetary Annihilation achievement or trophy. The ordinary duo’s aerial and sonar attacks are not the solution to this fight; the ship supplies the required movement and elemental weapons. Conversely, that requirement does not apply to the world’s robot-hand brazier puzzle or the Captain’s Cabin, whose fire interactions are performed with the normal duo’s Slurp State.
Shoreline Collectibles and Ship Challenges in Yooka-Replaylee
Yooka-Replaylee keeps the Mollycool in the tall tower on the central island. Use the Flight Bomb vapor available around the island to ascend the structure and collect it, then take it to Puzz on the small shore beside the enclosed pool on the other side of the island. The remake does not require purchasing the original game’s hundred-Quill Sonar Shield lesson to unlock the ship. Its Switch 2 display shows A for Boost, B for Fire Shot, Y for Ice Shot, X for Cannon Shot and ZR for Exit. Exit immediately restores the normal duo, making it convenient to alternate between the vessel and shoreline mechanisms. For Fish in a Barrel, melt the ice behind the D.N.Ray, leave the form and strike the exposed steering wheel to raise the underwater Pagie. Lower the nearby gate with an ice shot, then thaw the torn Pagie beside the dock. Its three missing parts are suspended around the tower island in balloons; use the normal duo’s flight power and Sonar Shot to recover them before returning. These are fragments of that particular torn Pagie, separate from the world’s eight loose Pagie Pieces. One of those loose pieces is under the wooden pier on the back of the tower island, facing the large pirate ship. Use the ship’s cannonballs to break the rock beneath the pier and reveal it. Further ice rocks conceal Evie and Fee-Dee. Melt Evie’s cover between the tower island and docked ship, then catch the released ghost. Fee-Dee is frozen near another island and needs to be fed an ice shot after the ice has been removed. Each capture has its own Pagie in the remake. The ship also opens Gravity Grab: destroy the rock concealing a green Q.U.I.D.S, collect it to start the timed trail and boost along the appearing coins until the full route is complete. Keep the cannon facing the next obstruction before accelerating, since a hidden coin route still requires accurate steering after its starting rock has been cleared.
Tidal Targets, A Race in Space and the Remade Planette
Tidal Targets is a separate remake activity built around navigating and shooting from the ship. Sail through its blue starting ring, then follow the course through the island while firing at the standing cutout targets. All of the targets must be destroyed before time expires. Green speed panels help maintain momentum, while red brake panels slow the vessel and can spoil the run if crossed carelessly. Aim early when a target appears beside a turn, and use the ship’s own Boost to make up time along the open stretches. Nimble’s A Race in Space is another timed route, opened by shooting the snowflake switch on the barrier between the starting island and the tower island. Speak to her inside the enclosure to begin. The remake’s course has twelve gates and numerous speed ramps. Pass through the gates in order, break the rocks that hide further ramps and use the green boosts to stay ahead. These race gates and Tidal Targets’ cutouts belong to different challenges, with one Pagie awarded for each successful activity. The world’s boss still uses the ship’s elemental weapons. Clear the ice and molten rocks around Moonie’s arena, speak to him and shoot the requested spot to bring out Planette. Her rocky, icy and fiery surfaces require cannonballs, Fire Shot and Ice Shot respectively. Keep moving through the projectile patterns, remove the exposed crater weapons and attack when her vulnerable face is presented. The remake awards three Pagies for defeating her, rather than the original game’s single boss reward. The D.N.Ray and Exit remain available for the surrounding exploration: leave the vessel for the pirate ship’s mast, the Captain’s lantern, tongue-grapple routes and mechanisms requiring Buddy Slam. Access to the sea makes the ship useful for travelling between those tasks, while their actual completion still uses the relevant form and ability. The permanent pirate ship, Flight Bomb power and D.N.Ray ship therefore have distinct purposes even when they appear together around the same part of Galleon Galaxy.
