Van Form

Van Form banner placeholder

The Van, also called the Money Van, is the third ordinary transformation supplied by Humba Wumba in Banjo-Tooie. Available in Witchyworld, it gives Banjo and Kazooie the body of a small armoured bank van, with a grey cargo compartment, yellow lower body, eyes above the front window and the blue backpack on its roof. Reach Humba’s cliffside wigwam from the Western Zone: use Flap Flip to get onto the left-hand door beside the Crazy Castle entrance, jump to the ledge and Grip Grab along the wall before climbing up to the tent. Activate the nearby warp pad so the transformed vehicle can leave and return without repeating that climbing route. The Glowbo is inside the wigwam in plain sight; offer it to Humba and enter her pool to change. This unlocks later transformations without paying another Glowbo. The Van can drive, jump and defeat ordinary enemies by ramming them, and its horn opens doors marked with a matching vehicle symbol. Press B on Nintendo 64 or X in the Xbox controls to honk. Unlike the normal duo, the Van has no visible health bar and takes no ordinary damage from enemies, spikes or the Inferno’s lava. Dropped health honeycombs cannot be collected while transformed, and falls into bottomless gaps can still be fatal, particularly along the Haunted Cavern’s narrow bridge. Its other special function is carrying the money needed at the park’s payment boxes, allowing it to open two attractions without a separate coin-collecting errand. The normal pair’s climbing moves, Split Up and other abilities return only after changing back in Humba’s pool. The Van also appears as a model in Banjoland in Nuts & Bolts, where it represents the earlier transformation rather than a new playable version of Humba’s spell.

Horn Doors, Collectibles and Big Top Tickets

Three signed Van doors lead to specific collectibles around Witchyworld. Before changing, use a Grenade Egg to open the metal gate into Area 51 near the world entrance if it is still closed. Return as the Van and drive to the far end of the runway, where honking in front of the vehicle-marked door opens the room containing a Jinjo. Another Van door stands in the Space Zone, beyond the Star Spinner and near the building used for the Saucer of Peril connection. Open it with the horn to collect the world’s Treble Clef, worth twenty Notes. The third is inside the Inferno, reached after paying its entrance toll. Follow the left-hand lava path and honk at the marked door to obtain a Cheato Page. The Van’s protection makes crossing this dangerous ground convenient, but reaching one door does not automatically open the other two; visit and sound the horn at each relevant panel. Driving around the Big Top also provides an easy way to collect the four Tickets required by Conga. Each of the four Fruities surrounding the tent drops a ticket when destroyed, and ramming them as the Van defeats them without spending eggs or health. The normal duo can also destroy these slot-machine enemies using suitable attacks, including Grenade Eggs or Bill Drill, so the vehicle is useful here without being the only solution. Collect all four tickets before approaching the Big Top’s admission requirement. The boss encounter inside belongs to Banjo and Kazooie in their normal form: learn Airborne Egg Aiming from Jamjars in the Space Zone for one hundred and eighty Notes, return to Humba to change back and prepare Grenade Eggs for Mr. Patch. The Van’s horn and armour do not supply the aerial attacks used in that fight. Its collectible route instead finishes with the Jinjo, Treble Clef, Cheato Page and any tickets gathered during the drive.

Paying for the Inferno and Reaching Mumbo

The Van’s first essential payment opens the Inferno in the Horror Zone behind the Big Top. Approach the box marked Pay Here beside the entrance and the vehicle automatically deposits a coin, allowing the doors to open. The money comes with the transformation, so there is no need to search the park for a separately counted currency supply. Enter as the Van to collect the Cheato Page behind its signed door and explore the lava paths safely. The Inferno also contains the Glowbo used to recruit Mumbo Jumbo, his skull-shaped home and a warp pad beside it. Activate the pad during the visit, then return to Wumba’s Wigwam and restore the normal duo before taking Mumbo’s place. Give him the Glowbo found in the Inferno so he can leave his chair and use his Power spell at the park’s generators. This order is important: the Van first pays to reach the area containing Mumbo, then Mumbo opens access to an attraction that needs a second Van payment. Before leaving the Inferno as Banjo and Kazooie, its tower also offers a separate Jiggy task. Learn Split Up from Jamjars behind the Big Top for one hundred and sixty Notes and use the pads inside the chamber. Send Banjo onto the switch that supplies the Shock Spring Pad at the top of the central slide, then switch control to Kazooie and take her up the spiral route. Avoid the fiery enemies coming down the slope, using the Running Shoes if their extra speed helps with the ascent. At the top, the active spring pad lets Kazooie jump to the Jiggy. Banjo must keep holding the switch while she completes this part. This is a reward made accessible by the Van’s toll, with the actual platforming performed after its magic has been reversed. Reunite the pair and use the unlocked warp pads for the remaining journeys between Humba, Mumbo and the Space Zone.

The Dodgem Dome Payment and Three Challenges

The Dodgem Dome in the Space Zone requires both electrical power and the Van’s money before its bumper-car games become available. As Mumbo, use the Power spell on the pad beside the building’s generator to open the outer entrance. Return him to his chair, visit Humba as Banjo and Kazooie and become the Van again. Drive into the newly accessible lobby and approach the Pay Here box to deposit the coin that opens the first challenge door. Restore the normal duo at Wumba’s pool before coming back to play. The vehicle supplied for the minigame is a bumper car, separate from the armoured Van used to pay for admission. The first round pits Banjo against one opponent and requires sixty points in forty-five seconds. Collect the coloured Twinklies while keeping clear of the pursuing car: red ones are worth one point, green ones two and blue ones three. Winning opens the second door, where two opponents try to block the player and the target falls to fifty points within the same time limit. The final round has three opponents and requires forty points in forty-five seconds. Although the score requirement decreases, the increasing number of cars makes it easier to become trapped against a wall or in a corner. Keep moving through open areas and turn toward groups of green and blue Twinklies when possible. Complete all three rounds to receive the Jiggy; the later doors open through victories, without another trip to deposit a coin for each match. The Inferno and Dodgem Dome are the two attractions that use the Van’s payment ability. Horn-operated doors form a separate set of interactions, while the Star Spinner and Saucer of Peril depend on Mumbo’s other Power pads and their own access tasks. Once the Van’s payments and collectible doors are finished, return to Humba to resume the normal duo’s remaining park quests. During ordinary play the transformation stays within Witchyworld, so it cannot be driven across the Isle o’ Hags to pay for services in other worlds.
