Scrit

Scrit banner placeholder

Scrit is a blue Styracosaurus who lives with his mother Scrotty in Terrydactyland’s Styracosaurus Family Cave in Banjo-Tooie. He is one of three dinosaur children whose problems Banjo and Kazooie must resolve to earn the family’s Jiggy. Unlike his sick elder brother Scrat and missing sister Scrut, Scrit is already at home but has become much smaller than he used to be. His mother says he returned from a walk at that size, while Scrit is upset that the girl dinosaurs laugh at him. Mumbo Jumbo’s local Enlarge spell can restore his size once the duo uncover the correct pad and bring the shaman into the cave. The change also transforms Scrit’s conversation, replacing his crying with enthusiastic claims about his strength and popularity.

Appearance and Family

Scrit has blue skin, a pale underside and the broad, horned head shared by the Styracosaurus family. A pointed nose horn and spiked frill distinguish his silhouette, while his short body rests on four legs. His colour separates him from yellow Scrat and pink Scrut, and his initially reduced scale makes him stand out beside their enormous mother. Before Mumbo intervenes, he is roughly comparable in size to Banjo rather than the much larger dinosaurs around him. He retains his blue appearance after Enlarge, but his body becomes substantially larger.

Why Scrit Needs Help

Scrotty explains that Scrit was out walking one day and came back at his reduced size. She considers him too small to be a proper dinosaur and includes his problem among the three requests she gives the visiting bear and bird. The game does not identify who or what caused the change, and his earlier walk is described rather than shown. Scrit’s own concern is social: he cries because the girls laugh at how small he is. These lines establish why he wants help without supplying a medical explanation for his condition. His difficulty is therefore different from Scrat’s illness, even though both brothers need Mumbo’s magic. The answer is a local enlargement spell, while Scrat must make a separate journey to the Cliff Top for treatment.

Finding the Cave and Revealing the Mumbo Pad

The Styracosaurus Family Cave is in the lower part of Terrydactyland, up the steep ramp to the right of the World Entry and Exit, opposite the cliff containing the small Clockwork Kazooie tunnels. Opening the world requires 20 Jiggies and completion of Jiggywiggy’s corresponding picture challenge. Inside, a Cursed Beehive can interfere with the visit, so clearing it as the duo makes the later approach with Mumbo easier. Two boulders in the cave conceal different pads. Use Bill Drill, taught by Jamjars in Glitter Gulch Mine at 85 Musical Notes, to break them. One reveals the Mumbo Pad needed for Scrit; the other reveals a Shock Spring Pad associated with an Extra Honeycomb Piece. The spring pad is not the spell trigger, and ordinary attacks on Scrit do not substitute for exposing the Mumbo Pad.

Recruiting Mumbo in Terrydactyland

Mumbo’s Skull stands across the bog in the lower part of Terrydactyland. On the first approach, Wading Boots can help the duo cross the dangerous ground; activate the nearby warp pad so later visits do not require repeating the entire crossing. A Glowbo is found behind the skull, and giving it to Mumbo allows the player to control him. His regional magic is Enlarge, applied at specific Mumbo Pads rather than chosen freely from a menu. The pad outside his home enlarges the stepping stones, and the one beside Wumba’s Wigwam changes the size of her tent. Scrit has his own pad inside the family cave. Enlarging the wigwam may be useful for the world’s T-Rex transformation puzzles, but changing that building is not what resizes the dinosaur.

Reaching Scrit as Mumbo

The direct ramp into the family cave is too steep for Mumbo, even though Banjo and Kazooie can climb it with Talon Trot. Approach from the other side instead: travel to Wumba’s Wigwam, go through the adjoining red tunnel towards the area outside the family cave, then use the narrow ledge on the right along the wall. Follow that ledge to reach the cave entrance without climbing the steep slope. This route is the important difference between preparing the pad as the duo and returning to use it as the shaman. Once inside, walk up to the pad exposed beneath the boulder. Activate it with Mumbo’s action button, B on Nintendo 64, to perform Enlarge: Small Styracosaurus. The spell targets Scrit where he is waiting in the cave.

The Enlargement and Scrit’s Reaction

Mumbo’s spell makes Scrit grow immediately, leaving him visibly larger when normal control resumes. He no longer gives his original crying complaint and instead celebrates being big. His new dialogue claims that the girls now want to go out with him, and another remark invites the other dinosaurs to admire how big and strong he feels. Scrotty thanks the duo for enlarging her child and hopes he will find a girlfriend. Those conversations continue the concern about size and dating introduced before the spell, rather than beginning another quest to find a partner. Scrit stays with his family after the change. His part of the task is complete at that point; there is no growth timer, feeding stage or train journey before the enlargement counts.

Completing the Styracosaurus Family Quest

Helping Scrit fulfils one of Scrotty’s three conditions for the family’s Jiggy. Scrat must also be carried into Chuffy’s wagon with Taxi Pack, healed by Mumbo at the Cliff Top and returned to Terrydactyland. Scrut must be freed from her cell in Witchyworld’s Cave of Horrors and brought home on the train. These tasks can be completed in different orders, so enlarging Scrit only produces the final reward if the other two children have already been helped. When all three conditions are satisfied, Scrotty gives the visitors a Jiggy she acquired by stepping on an Unga Bunga. Kazooie asks for another because of the amount of work involved, but Scrotty refuses. The three children share that one reward rather than supplying a separate golden piece each.

Quiz Reference and Banjo-Tooie Versions

The family also appears in Tower of Tragedy’s questions through a question about the kind of dinosaurs represented by the mother and her three children. The answer is Styracosaurus, which applies to Scrit before and after the enlargement. His quest belongs to the original Nintendo 64 Banjo-Tooie and is retained in the Xbox version, its Rare Replay presentation and the Nintendo 64 version on Nintendo Switch Online. The local Glowbo, concealed pad and alternate route for Mumbo remain the relevant parts of the encounter; use the action control shown by the version being played. These releases present the same family event rather than a later adventure in Scrit’s life. His established appearance is the blue dinosaur whose condition changes inside the Styracosaurus Family Cave.
