Mr. Ripovski

Mr. Ripovski banner placeholder

Mr. Ripovski is a rat merchant and minigame host who repeatedly meets Banjo during Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge. His businesses take him from Breegull Beach to Bad Magic Bayou, Spiller’s Harbor and Freezing Furnace, offering Jiggies in exchange for a collection task or success at his attractions. He first requests five blue shells, later runs two fishing games, and personally races the bear and bird down the Waterslide O’ Fear. His salesmanship is accompanied by insults, boasts and an interest in customers whose activities concern him less than their business. A later appearance in Banjo-Pilot places him among the spectators at an awards ceremony.

The Merchant at Breegull Beach

Ripovski is a brown rat with large rounded ears, a long muzzle and a dark nose, features also visible in his conversation portrait. His first business operates from a beach hut in Breegull Beach, south of the Ancient Breegull and the approach to Quarry Heights. He asks for five blue shells scattered around the shore, presenting the exchange as an opportunity to obtain an unusual novelty. Banjo accepts the offer, and the rat’s description of the prize grows more elaborate once the shells have been collected. The supposed novelty turns out to be a Jiggy, described as a jigsaw consisting of a single piece. Returning the complete set makes the reward appear in front of the hut. The entire collection earns one Jiggy; the shells are the items Ripovski wants, rather than currency to spend at every later encounter.

Finding All Five Blue Shells

Two shells lie on the beach east of Mumbo’s Pad, near the route towards the quarry entrance. Another is on the stepped ledges beside the Ancient Breegull, along the ascent leading towards Breegull Peak. The fourth is beside a tire on the right-hand side of Ripovski’s hut. For the remaining shell, follow the ledge south from the hut and look beside the lower platform, dropping to the right to reach the sand. These landmarks cover the full collection, including the shell above the main shore that is easy to miss while searching only at sea level. The route can be explored while completing the world’s other tasks, then finished by returning to speak to Ripovski. The numbering used in walkthroughs reflects their chosen route around the beach rather than a required collection sequence.

Gruntilda’s Quarry and His Customers

Ripovski also supplies information about the operation taking over Breegull Beach. After the trade, he explains that Gruntilda is having stone blocks cut for a new castle and acknowledges the Breegulls caught up in the work. His reaction places business ahead of concern for the birds, while Banjo responds angrily to what the witch is doing. Another remark complains that the visitors are frightening away his hooded customers, and he also warns about being blown up on the way back. These exchanges give the merchant a role beyond handing over a collectible: he knows about the quarry and is prepared to keep trading in its shadow. The dialogue establishes his priorities without specifying a formal job in Gruntilda’s organization.

Magic Angler in Bad Magic Bayou

In Bad Magic Bayou, Ripovski stands on a dock reached by crossing the patches of tires and sandy islands. Jump onto the dock to begin Magic Angler. Banjo must land twelve red fish within forty seconds, using the Control Pad to move left and right. Hold B to determine casting distance, then release it to send out the hook; a longer hold reaches farther into the water. Snippets move among the fish and pinch Banjo if reeled in, costing honey energy, so successful casting depends on choosing a clear target as well as reaching it. The surrounding bayou water is poisonous, making the dock the place to fish from. Catching the required dozen earns a Jiggy, which appears on the sand south of the dock. A failed attempt can be retried rather than requiring another set of beach shells.

The Five Silver Coins in Spiller’s Harbor

Ripovski’s next counter is in Spillerston, the town region of Spiller’s Harbor, up the stairs beside Mrs. Squitter’s position. Admission to his waterslide costs five silver coins found around the world. One is on the sandcastle roof in Bilge Haven, and another is beside a house step inside a fenced plot in Spillerston. A third lies in the wooded area west of the gazebo, where swarms of bees make Wonderwing useful while collecting it. The fourth is behind the couch in the Tip-Tup Suite: reach the café roof from a picnic table using Talon Trot, then enter through the roof opening. The last is inside a small wooden dinghy in the harbour, near the dock and the large pipe containing an Empty Honeycomb Piece. Bring the full set to the counter as ordinary Banjo. Ripovski describes the purchase as a lifetime pass, and these silver coins are separate from the gold coins collected during the ending credits.

Racing Down the Waterslide O’ Fear

Paying admission leads to Ripovski’s claim that he is the fastest rider on the attraction. Kazooie asks what the duo would win by beating him, and he puts a Jiggy at stake. Enter the opening to the left of his counter to begin the race, labelled Slide O’ Fear in the minigame menu. Ripovski floats down the centre of the course using an umbrella, while the player steers Banjo left and right with the Control Pad. Red-and-yellow arrow pads provide bursts of speed; tar patches cause a spin and lose momentum. Aim for the arrows and move out of the tar’s path rather than following the rat straight down the middle. The head icons at the side show the competitors’ progress, with the lower icon closer to the finish. Winning sends the duo out into Bilge Haven, where the Jiggy appears on the platform to the right of the exit.

Frozen Fish in Freezing Furnace

Ripovski’s final Grunty’s Revenge attraction is inside an igloo in Freezing Furnace. On the approach, Bozzeye teaches Fire Eggs for 470 Musical Notes. Use a Fire Egg on the nearby toll to activate the moving platform, then ride up to the area containing the igloo. The host introduces his challenge as Fishy Fingers, while the minigame menu calls it Frozen Fish. The objective is again twelve fish in forty seconds, with left-and-right movement and a B-button cast whose distance depends on how long it is held. This time the fish and Snippets are submerged, leaving their shadows to judge before releasing the hook. Avoid bringing up a crab while working towards the required catch. After success, leave the cramped igloo and jump onto its roof to collect the Jiggy placed outside. This fishing reward is separate from Miss Bucket’s gold-nugget task elsewhere in the world.

Replaying the Fishing Games and Race

Magic Angler, Slide O’ Fear and Frozen Fish are also among the minigames offered by the N. Kreditz Arcade in Spillerston. Arcade access to the bonus games is unlocked using gold coins gathered on the slide during the ending credits. Those credits coins serve a different purpose from the five silver coins paid to Ripovski for waterslide admission during the adventure. The arcade therefore gives the player another way to revisit his challenges after their original world encounters. It also explains why the same attraction can appear under a shorter menu title than the name used in conversation. The main adventure’s four Ripovski-related Jiggies come from the shell exchange, Magic Angler, winning the waterslide race and Frozen Fish.

Banjo-Pilot and the Ripovski Name

Ripovski reappears in Banjo-Pilot as a spectator at the Grand Prix awards ceremony. He joins other supporting characters from Grunty’s Revenge, including Alfred P. Cock and Mama Clucker, in the celebration around the successful racers. His role is a background cameo rather than a place in the playable racing roster, and the ceremony adds no new shell collection or fishing task. The sound of Ripovski also suggests the expression rip-off, fitting the merchant’s sales patter and waterslide business. That wordplay is a reading of the name and his behaviour, rather than a confirmed statement from the developers about his origin or nationality.
